How old is this doe? Looks older than "normal" to me, whatever that is?

Long "banana" nose. Often an indicator of age.

True, but only a dental exam would yield a good age estimate. \:\)

Based on just the above pics, could we accurately claim anything beyond this doe being 2 1/2 or older?

They key word is "accurately," and using that criterion, the answer is no. A long nose only "suggests" advanced age.

I was thinking that the obviously "heavier than normal" body structure would be a reasonable indicator of 4 or more years old. But then I am not a deer biologist and my eyes aren't really calibrated to doe aging since most all deer aging relates to bucks. However, I am in-tune to noticing the changes in cows due to age and this doe has a lot of the same look a really old cow has. Such as the swayed back but that could be partly from how she is stretched out. Don't know.

I have found no consistent body conformation indicators of doe age. I can tell if they are 2 1/2+ and that's it.

I would age her by grilling her backstraps. If they are tough she is 4.5+

my guess from that face is that she could well be 4.5+....and I think +. Also her hair around eye area looks aged like you see in older deer....I took a 6.5 doe at laurel hill wma aged by the biologist and I never forgot that old haggard look of that doe. You can be assured that this doe is closer to 5.5 than 2.5....and I would be fairly certain of that.
She is mature and I like to shoot them.....they are trophies in my book!! \:\)
