Pets are just that, pets. I agree with BSK and others, pets do NOT belong inside any business except pet stores and vets.

The problem I have run into is that a customer states their animal is a service animal but no paper work to prove it. It is a thin red line and could be a liability to my pocket book if I ask or do the wrong thing.

You are correct Encore. You also cannot ask what the person's handicap is but can ask what service the animal performs.

Saw a person bring a Goat to Lowes once.

Figured the wife said "Go to Lowes" and he just misunderstood.

I often fly commercial airlines with my job and I can't count how many times I have seen people bring a lap dog onto an airplane. ANd it usually will cry the whole time.

I also detest people that try to drive with a dog in their lap, and usually have a cell phone in one hand, cigarette in the other. It's dangerous, and can I just imagine what happens to the dog in a wreck.

What about everybody else around them? They didn't get the choice.

I understand your point but at the same time, at an outdoor event a person is capable of moving away or asking the individual with the dog to do so.

But in that situation, now the onus is on me to correct another person's behavior. First, that never goes well; and second, I shouldn't be put in that position.

You're right but it's the same situation for a child that is misbehaving and disrupting everyone. I realize there is a difference between a dog and a child but the context is the same. I just feel like if the dog is behaving and not causing a problem then it's no big deal. However, im the type of guy that if my dog is being a bother or something then ill remove it. I think most people with manners would do the same. For the folks without manners, well they will always do what they want no matter what and all you can do is hope they will listen when you tell them whats what.

I'm sure some will disagree but I can't stand the new fad of people thinking they can take their dog into EVERY store and to sporting events.

I'm sure it won't be a popular opinion, but I completely agree. I don't want to be confronted by everyones 60-100# dog every time I go in a store or to a kids' ballgame.

I love dogs, but I agree with Pic and BSK. Dog owners can be very inconsiderate at times. Other times some can be downright ignorant and rude.

I live near a large park (several hundred acres) in Nashville. This park is very popular with walkers, joggers, and bikers, and has many miles of paths set up for this type of activity. The park also has a big fenced area specifically for allowing dogs to run unleashed. I also have no problems with people bringing their LEASHED dogs with them when they walk/run. However, I can't count the number of time I or my wife have encountered a VERY large unleashed dog on a trail. Sometimes the owner is 20 feet behind and sometimes out of sight. And I hate to be sexist, but this situation almost always involves a 30-something yuppy woman, and she will act rudely incensed if you ask her to leash her dog, even though park rules require it AND the park provides a very nice unleashed dog area.

BSK, I understand. Few dogs intimidate me when I encounter them, but I've never been attacked. If I remember correctly, both you and your wife were attacked (or had a horrific experience) at some point in your lives. Too many dog owners don't realize some people are terrified of dogs.

I got my ankle bitter for company. She rides with me when it is convenient. If weather is nice and not hot she will stay in the truck if I am in some place. If it is hot out she stays at home. There are a lot of places a dog doesn't belong.
