Im seeing a moderate to heavy crop of white oaks on my place in Fentress and my place in Morgan. Im seeing a low to moderate crop on any of the various red oaks, but I dont feel like Ive properly scouted enough of those yet.

White oaks appear pretty heavey all over wayne county, and chestnut oaks and black oak varieties. Still don't have the verdict out on red oaks as this is the rotational year hear for us, I have seen some, just cant confirm how many.

Bumper crop of chestnut oaks in Wayne County!! Raining down constantly all morning from all areas of our 3030 acre lease!!! What a year! Bumper crop of Muscadines everywhere there also!!!

I really don't think the acorn crop in my area is going to be as good as I first thought. Maybe a 5 on a scale of 0 to 10.

I have very few white oak trees dropping acorns. Several red oaks are dropping. This may be the worst acorn crop I've seen over the last six years. After several years of heavy mast, I guess this shouldn't be a surprise.

I think a poor mast year would be such a big surprise because weather conditions have been so conducive to fruiting. If the weather we've had this spring and summer doesn't produce a bumper acorn crop, then obviously we don't know anything about what drives acorn production.

Looks to be on the lower end to me, but not terrible. I would give it a 3-4 on a 0-10 scale.
I don't know what causes some years to be better/worse than others, besides the big 2007 April 7th?? 20 degree frost!
After the rain this spring and summer, this is not a big crop like some people would think. I wonder if lots of rain this year, helps out the fall of 2014 more than it would this fall 2013?
