I know it is a little early to say what the acorn crop looks like this year, but has anyone been checking out trees for little acorns yet? If so, what is everyone seeing? We've had a couple good years in a row, so the law of averages would say not so good this year....except the weather has not been average this summer either. I've put more work than usual into food plots and other improvements this year so it would be nice to have a down year for acorns and more usage of food plots. If anybody has noticed anything so far, what is it and what part of Tennessee are you referring to?

So far, looks like at least a decent crop. As they get easier to see, I suspect it might be a BIG crop.

Pulled in my parents driveway today and huge red oak acorns were raining on my car from the wind. Green of course, but doing good so far

Never ceases to amaze me how the acorn crop can be so different on properties that just a few miles apart. Last year, we had NO acorns and the year before they were slim at best. Actually hoping for a bumper crop this year, as our deer have been pounded pretty hard on plots 2 years in a row.

I just checked a huge pin oak Saturday (July 27) and it's loaded with tiny acorns.

Yup, the Chinquapins and Mountain Chestnut Oaks (sister species) are doing great this year.

I haven't checked the "red oak" varieties in our area but I can tell you that the whites are considered pretty heavy at this point from my Lawrence and Wayne county observations. This is supposed to be a red oak year rotation so if it is,,,,,it will be a "heavy" year.
