Vortex Viper 4x12x40 vs the Nikon Monarch 3x12x42, does anyone have a comparison. The more I look the more confused I seem to be. Does the argon in the Viper better than the nitrogen in the Monarch? Is the 42 mm noticeable over the 40 mm in the Monarch?. Is the eye relief noticeable-Viper I think 3.7 vs 4.0 in the Monarch. The Viper is about 40.00 cheaper. Any real actual knowledge of comparing both?

Argon is supposed to not break down the O-ring seal as fast as Nitrogen and is a larger molecule that will not leak out as fast over time. Between the 2, I would choose the Vortex for the simple fact that the Vortex has better customer service and the warranty is better.

I can't speak for the Monarch, but my Vortex Viper HS 5-15x 44mm is FREAKIN AWESOME! It gives my Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x 44mm a run for the money.

Zeiss conquest! But you can't go wrong with either of the two you mentioned.

I have a Monarch and like it , like mentioned above, for the money. Eye relief is really nice. I like, but as W.Seay mentioned, I like my Conquest better than any scope I own. (Thanks again DA for the advice of buying it!)

I am in the market for a new scope and that Vortex caught my eye. I have been Leupold since forever along with a bunch of cheapos. Any more Vortex users out there wanna chime in? Quite frankly, I hate Nikon products. Their quality IMHO has gone straight downhill for some time, hence the warranty note mentioned above.

I can't say enough about my Vortex. It's not the cheapest, nor the most expensive glass in my safe. However, I can say that I will buy another for my next rifle instead of some of the other brands that I already have. I also have Vortex binoculars and they are nice as well.

Vortex for warranty...and if they are still transferable then they will keep their value.

I am about to purchase a Vortex Razor HD spotting scope for that very reason.
