I finally broke down and bought a slug barrel for my 870 I also got a Nikon shotgun scope. My question to you slug hunters is which slugs should I go with and is the punishment of 3" slugs worth it. Do you get that much more performance out of a 3" v/s 2 3/4 and what kind of yardage do you all get. 100 yd max????

I shoot a 2-3/4" 20 gauge and it's all the gun I need. I would feel comfortable out to 150-175 yds with a good rest. Unfortunately, which slug is best is an expensive game of trial and error. Mine loves the AccuTips but I shot three different brands to reach that conclusion.

I went to the range with my 20 ga this last Saturday for the first time with this gun. I shot 2 boxes of the 2 3/4(different brands), then tried a box of 3". The accuracy went away on the 3" shells(and kicked the crap out of my shoulder). I am going to stay with the 2 3/4. Accu tips. Shot a decent group.

I shoot 3 inch light fields. Love them. I also shoot a 20g. I've shot 4 deer with this gun the last two years and they drop.

Thanks for the input fellas. I'm going to try the SST in 2 3/4. I'll put it in the lead sled and see how it groups

Winchester® Supreme® Partition Gold Sabot Slug. 200 yrd shots are not out of the question. The Mossberg 500 with rifled barrel is killer. If I put the hairs on something and feel good about the shot what I aimed at was hit right where I put it.

Son used this gun last year, put the hairs on a deer @ 135 yrds. and aimed a tick high. Hit the deer a tick high just under the strap. Deer dropped dead on the spot.

I don't mind the Remington s, but won't use them if I can get the Winchesters. They never miss.

I hit a yote @ 140 yrds in the head using the partion golds
