I guess I'm different than some. I could care less how long/short/heavy/light my rifle is if I'm sitting in a tree stand all day. To be honest if I'm only up a tree, I would probably opt for my Pre 64 Win 70 in .264 with a 26" barrel, my heaviest and most accurate rifle. I want a short light rifle when I'm moving around on the ground or hiking these East TN hills, my favorite for that is my Kimber 84M Montana in .308. My best of both worlds gun is my Kimber 8400 in 270 WSM.

When given a choice between what I have, my Kimber 84M .308 generally comes out of the safe when wanting fairly short and light. I havent used a rifle that handles better than that for me.

The best one for me is the one I decide to take out of the safe to hunt with that day in a treestand. That's easy hunting. I would be more concerned with which rifle I had to tote around through the woods, up and down hills, and in the thickets all day long.

That is one light rifle. How in the world did you get it so light with the scope on it? The rifle itself is 6.5 pounds and the scope is 13 oz.

Mine's a Browning A-bolt in 325 WSM, but I'm looking at going with a Winchester Model 70 Featherweight Compact in 7mm-08. Model Seven in same caliber sounds good too. I like the Compact Rugers also, but it sure is short with that 16.5 inch barrel..... thanks for the response!!

It took me 25 years of hunting to find what I consider the perfect treestand rifle. Model 7-SS chambered in 7mm-08 with a Zeiss 3-9x40 with Talley LW mounts.

That's my thinking, as well, unless there is a long, hilly hike preceding my climb into my treestand.

My H&R Handi-Rifle in 270 WCF topped with a 50mm objective scope. It gathers a lot of light and is a very accurate rifle.

If I'm stillhunting, my 1980 model Winchester 94 30 WCF is my favorite.

i've got one stand that been really productive but visibility is is only about a 100 feet at best
so the deer are right on you before you can get a shot
so my ruger 357 max has been my primary choice there
though its getting harder and harder for me to see the iron sights. i'll probably carry my 3030 with the 16"barrel down there next time

Ruger M77 Compact in 260 REM with a Burris Fullfield II 2-7X35. It weighs about a pound less than my Browning ABolt 270, and the compact stock makes it easier to shot from the awkward positions tree stand hunting sometimes presents. Also, the 16.5" barrel really doesn't hurt the velocity that much; it can still reach out there and touch them, as this video shows:

Don't have many options this year, so far anyway. Fortunate to have the kid's Rossi .243, my CVA .50 cal. or my son's Mosin Nagant. Most of my shots will be under 100 yards so any one of the above is adequate.

I only have one rifle at the present time Winchester model 70 black shadow 300wsm. However if I were able to buy another for treestands hunting in the timber I would get the gun climb_higher is shooting. Savage hog hunter .308, they have a short heavy barrel threaded from the factory for a muzzle break and with matched hand load rounds from Jcalder will drive tacks at 100 yards
