This will be my first bow-season. I've read a few articles on broadheads, and I'd like your opinions. 1. Do you take both to the stand? 2. Is there a situation where you'd use one over the other? 3. Is it really just a preference thing?

I'm not really looking for broadhead recommendations; I just want to know about the deer hunting application of fixed vs. expandable.

It is a Preference thing. You will most likely want to stick with one broadhead, especially if you are new to bowhunting.

Carry both...no.

I've shot a 1-1/8" expandable for the last 10-12 years with incredible success in the field. If there were a single reason why: tunability and consistency from field point to broadhead. For years I was utterly frustrated after shooting 10-rings year-round only to require adjustments when I screwed in the broadheads.

Shot the 2-blade Rage for about the past 4 years. Last year I tried the 2-blade Bloodrunner and like them as we'll b/c you can reuse them more so than the rage. Both r legit!!!

Just make sure you tune them to your arrows with whatever you pick. You can't beat a 3 bladed rage!

A well tuned and sharp fixed blade is my choice! No moving parts to fail or break!

Completely a preference thing. Pros and Cons to both. I shoot expandables and love them. Buddy shot the same exact heads last year, hated them.

I have shot both and there are pros and cons for both. I shoot fixed now simply because I can shoot several deer with the same head. most expandables I shot were 1 and done.

Hard to take both to stand,IMO,both would likely shoot different,I would think.
