FYI, PETA likes killing for no purpose as well rukiddin. Never had to deal with a flock of them at my house, so I just might not know how bad they are, but I will say that my position on this issue is NOT supporting the anti's. Anti's like to hire deer snipers to take out "nuisance" deer as well. Anyone can apparently call any animal a "nuisance" it seems, but it's still an edible food source just like deer, and thus should be fully utilized to its potential, not wasted, which is exactly what this is, a waste. Oh, and the trapping of the geese had already taken place, so no defense on the cost of that. USDA dropped the ball for not finishing and carrying out the relocation, but I digress, this is all jmo. Have a good day.

Good Riddance

How much sport in hunting resident geese?

They did the right thing...

Ding Ding Ding! Resident geese are a scourge. They are fun to watch though...after taking a full load of 3.5 inch BBs

dang geese at a local pond were tearing up my bread while I was fishing. hard not to hook into one sometimes... did manage to catch a carp and catfish on the bread though. I can see how they are a big nuisance in some ponds but they could have at least donated the meat.

Ditto , seems to me this is just a lame excuse . I believe they just didn't want to be bothered with it .

Thanks for the information rukiddin. I do understand more of the problem now. ;\) Still, it's just hard for me to accept wasting good meat, whether it can be avoided or not I suppose. \:\(

DaveB,

-still trying to find that burger recipe. Anyway, I brought a "snow goose" sausage back to the top of the cooking forum that works well for Canadian geese, too. A lot of folks complain about the "livery" taste and odor of geese. For whatever reason, the spice and cure mixture completely neutralizes that aspect of the meat. Its something to do with the combination of cure #1 and dried milk. Anyway, this a great and simple recipe, though you do need to hang the sausages to cure for a couple of days.

I bet most of us here have thrown out/thrown away more food this month than what these stupid geese would have amounted to.

America is the land of plenty when it comes to food. We have plenty to eat here. We are so surrounded by food that we've developed ALLERGIES to food. If you go to some of these other countries you won't ever hear of them having an allergy to food. We've got so much food that most every home will have at least 2 freezers in it to hold all the food that we can freeze. Then we have food that goes bad before we can finish eating it, because we have so much other food that we can eat instead of eating only one thing. So we have to sniff the ole pack of bologna to make sure it ain't gone bad before we make a sammich out of it.

We're so bad here, we have dual lanes at our fast food places because one lane wasn't fast enough for our food intake. We have $5 ready made, walk in and walk out Pizzas. All of our American social events involve food...usually in large quantities. How many times have you went to an all you can eat buffet, homecoming at church, or whatever else...and absolutely filled your plate with stuff...then after about halfway through, you realize your eyes were hungrier than your stomach...and you end up throwing away half a plateful of food.

And now folks are seriously going on about letting some stupid geese go to waste because they weren't made into food? I'm sure some homeless dude would have liked the rest of that sackful of Krystals you didn't want and tossed into the trash can. It's just a bird man. Just a bird. Chill. They ain't endangered or anything. They are a nuisance just like a gopher rat or a crow....relocate them and 10 more take their place or they still come back anyway. Kill 'em. Buzzards gotta eat. Same as the worms.

Just like killing deer and letting them go to waste, right? Plenty of deer out there, shoot'em and let'em rot. PLease. At LEAST let some hunter take'em out I say...at LEAST. In fact, if they are this bad, why are they listed as waterfowl anyway...why not just list them with hogs as nuisance animals?...or deer for that matter in certain parts of the country.

Besides...that sack full of krystals was probably gopher meat anyway.
