I saw something this past weekend I have never seen before. Of course, for the last week or so I have started seeing some small spotted fawns with their mommas now that they are a month or so old, but this weekend I saw a much larger fawn with no spots with its momma. I would estimate that it would be the size and age of a fawn that you would see in late September or October. I got a good look at it, as it and its momma was in the road not more than 50 feet from me.

If it really is ~4-5 months old, I think that would put its momma's breeding date back in about early August of last year. I know nature can throw some really strange things out there rarely, but has anyone ever heard of a doe being bred that time of year before?

There are documented cases of deer breeding during every month of the year.

Thanks BSK. It is not that uncommon for me to see the opposite - fawns who were born in July and even August from does who were bred in January or even a little later, but seeing an older fawn this time of year was a new one for me.
