I shoot the same, in 150gr. My rifle shoots them as well as I can hold the sights/cross-hairs, so no need to try anything else, especially since they're so affordable and easily found.

When you start shooting your muzzle loader with different loads you will understand this better.

100% correct sir! A muzzleloader can give you a headache finding the right combo of powder and bullet and will give you a good perspective of finding the right match for any gun

This is Tennessee.... You have no reason to be shooting over ~150 yards. In that range, there shouldn't be a huge variance of performance. If you are shooting over 150 yards in TN, you aren't set up properly. +150 yards is a different story.

Completely disagree we have some huge fields on our farms. Having 150 yards is nice but some time its just impossible to close that difference. So I think you'll really jumping to conclusions on that point. Every farm is different doesn't mean your set up wrong just because you can't get the deer within 150 yards. Now let me say I am not taking crazy shots I shoot 250 and closer and yes I practice a lot. So I am confident in that sense. Now for the topic on hand the hornady SST is a crazy hood round now if it'll shoot good out of your gun you will just have to see. But that's a great round to at least start with.

I see a lot of 150 gr Core-Lokts. Have many of you tried the 165 gr versions and not liked them?

I shoot the 150 grain in my 308 but I prefer the 165 grain in my 06.

My 1964 manufacture Remington 700 likes Federal 150's. Every deer shot with those has dropped right there!

150 federal power shok
My model 70 loves these things. Deer do not.
Did I see someone say clean your barrel after 3 shots??
Never clean a rifle barrel. Rub a oiled patch down it couple times a year let it be.
Fouling is your friend.
