Evening my fellow bull$h!tters...LOL. Gotta question for yall, I have heard rumor they are logging and clear cutting Beaver Dam Creek WMA. Can yall confirm or deny this for me? I have put together a wild card hunt for my group to hunt this public land that was randomly selected. Just curious. Appreciate it.

They sure have and still are from what I could tell. It is getting demolished right off HWY 100. Went to pick up my deer up from the taxidermist there on 100 last weekend and it looked like WWIII had started and I just hadn't gotten the memo. The other portion was cut a year or 2 ago and looks like its getting thicker. Plenty of good deer through there though

So is it worth a truck load of East Tennessee boys driving there for a shot or should we choose another wma? We all have private land to hunt, we just like the idea of no one having an advantage and making a contest out of it, LOL

\:D I hear that. I'll be down there next weekend and ill take a look at it and let you know. We can see the hwy 100 portion from our private land and our leased land borders the other portion, though I haven't been to that land yet this year. I have to go over there to replenish a salt lick. I'll let you know

Turkey hunted off 100 and beaver dam wma, leveled then and I'm sure it is now even more!!! Killed two good turkeys off of it though. Don't know if I will go back to it though. Would love to get my 10 year old son on a lease over there though.

I don't think they have been cutting timber the last couple of months out there, but that is only my observation from what you can see from Hwy. 100 and the lack of mud / dirt on the highway from log trucks pulling out from the logging roads. They really went at it hard and heavy back in the late winter and spring. There is some green starting to show in the clear cut areas and with the wet summer we have had so far, I imagine it will fill in with forbs / weeds pretty well by fall - nature's food plots! You might do pretty well by hunting near trails leading into the clear cut areas from the woods, provided you can find a way to get to them (I wouldn't want to try to walk through the clear cuts, as all the slash would make it a huge challenge to get through without twisting an ankle or breaking a leg but there is a pretty extensive network of logging roads through there which could be very useful).

The deer population has really rebounded the last 2 years (the EHD outbreak back in 2007 or 2008 severely dropped the population in the area). I would think that you could do very well, especially if you wanted to get a bunch of does. I think fawning success this year has been good as well.

That would be interesting.

Well, I sure do appreciate you all keeping me updated on the area. I guess we are still on for November. I will post our results then.
