Dang, it seems crazy how quickly the trail cam market is changing. The number of new cameras that have come out this year is mind boggling. The competition among the various brands has to be incredibly fierce, yet new brands keep entering an already crowded trail cam market. Browning, Cabela's, Big Game Treestands - they all want in on the action. There must be 20-25 brands selling trail cameras today. How many will fail? Many, I'm sure. The black flash revolution is in full swing. Many of last year's factory cams are already old news and several of the top ones from 2012 can be had at good clearance prices.

Here's another first, I believe. It's a black flash camera with a built in angle mounting system and an advertised flash range of 70ft for $150. The built in angle bracket is a simple but useful feature for my purposes. I don't see any way to use a python lock on it, though.

Exactly. They are almost all made by the same couple of Chinese manufacturers. In fact, copyright and intellectual property rights are so ignored over there that anyone can order X number of any brand camera with their own product name on it. Want to sell Bushnell's cameras as your own over the internet? You can, for a price.

In fact, almost all of the manufacturers were created when employees stole camera designs from their employers and started their own companies. It's a cut-throat world over there, with no rules.

And most have had the same poor reliabilities, and not been of any lasting value.

I am wondering if Cabela's has possibly come out with something a little different. Guess I'll have to try one to find out. Just have been burned so many times I'm hesitant on any new trail cams. Give me tried & proven.

Good catch.
Guess I'll hold off on the Cabela's cams. I thought they possibly had done something a little different.

For under 200 bucks, BSK, what would you rate as the best "value" camera and why. Appreciate your thoughts on this subject.

Personally, I use only the $200 black-flash models that are out. Most manufacturers now have a $200 black-flash model available. Right now I'm sticking to the Bushnell TrophyCam, Covert Black 60, and Uway VH200B type models, but I think the Moultrie i990 and Primos Supercharged TruthCam are worth a look.

You can get the 2013 Covert Extreme Black 60 for about $175 shipped if you use promo code "Freedom" this weekend when you check out. That promo code gets you an extra 10% off their already great price of $180.
