Is there such a thing as clear, yellow or amber colored polarized sunglasses?

Secondly, would one of those, if they make them, help you see fish under the water at night?

Check out the Native sunglasses. The pair I have you can easily swap the lenses out. So during the day you can use a darker lense then when running the river and fishing at night and low light you can switch out to clear or yellow lense. And a bonus, if you buy them at REI and they are ever damaged they will replace them for free...RF

Costa makes an amber lense. I would highly recommend the green mirror on the amber lense. It is the best amber lense that is polarized. Make sure it's the glass lense and not the plastic. After wearing plastic lenses for the past 5 years (Oakley Square Wire) and several others like Maui, nothing comes close to the 580 glass lense from Costa. I wouldn't wear them at night however.

Just thinking about if polarized glasses would help at night when bowfishing.
Dunno, might be a stupid idea.

I have a pair of mirrored amber Costas. They are awesome glasses in the day time, but I don't think that you could see well with them after dark.

Good advice, the 580 lens from Costa is what I also wear. Don't think they will help at night however!

We were just wondering if clear or yellow polarized sunglasses would help to see fish in the water at night when bowfishing.

I think you just need more light or to find more clear water.

Sure if you mount little spotlights on each temple. May as well attach video cameras too. \:D

Polarized lenses help visibility mostly by filtering out reflected light from the surface of the water, which is much more common in the daytime due to the light source (sun) coming from a different direction than your field of vision.

If you are bow fishing at night using a boat with lights or a headlamp, MOST of the effects of glare are negated by the light shining from your position towards the fish, such that the glare reflects away from you. There is usually still a minor amount of glare that still comes back at you, however, due to surface ripples.

The above might not be true, however, if you were shooting below some artificial lights such as streetlights on the back of a parking lot, dock lights, etc. In that case, polarized glasses might actually help more than you'd expect.

I have a set of cheap polarized sunglasses that I bought without realizing that the tint on them is not aggressive enough for my light-sensitive eyes. I bought them at BPS for about 15-20 bucks, and still use them on occasion when fishing in low light or on cloudier days. You might decide it's worth experimenting with something like that to see if it makes a difference in your situation, especially if you are seeing glare on the water where you are shooting. I wouldn't dream of buying a set of Costas for trying to bowfish at night, though \:\)

See if you can find some polarized, low-tint (smoke lens, maybe?) glasses on the internet and give those a try! You might be on to something \:\)
