Had to unstop a drainage pipe, due to relentless rain. I found four dead turkey poults hung in the sticks and leaves. This rain is bad for them young-ins.

I agree with Ruger.

And I still don't know just how good or bad was the nesting success, since I know some of the early nests were washed away by flooding. Got to have a hatch before you even have any poults.

Haven't seen many turkeys lately so I don't know what the hatch is like here. Have seen 4 jakes that hang around behind the neighbors houses and our backyard every single day. Just today there was 1 jake gobbling and then came over to another jake, strutted and walked around the other jake several times I guess showing dominance. Have been watching their beards grow since March, it's pretty cool. Now they are so tame they will watch you from 20 yards away, so I doubt I would feel right about killing one. Hope they stick around a while so I can watch them become longbeards.

Sunday afternoon I was running some back roads. The creeks are flooded and the animals are moving out of the bottoms. I saw what appeared to be a solitary Wild Turkey hen crossing the road in front of me. My wife asked "what are those little birds behind it?". It was probably 8-10 poults crossing behind the hen. They could already fly a little. Four of them never touched the road they flapped across. It was the first time I had ever seen Turkey chicks in the wild.

Same for us in Wayne & Hardin counties. Have not seen, or got a poult on camera all year. Have seen lots of hens together with no babies...Afraid all the rain may have gotten most of them this year.

Loc: TN, Rhea,

I see them nearly every morning on my way home from work. One group of 3 hens has about 20 or so poult that are a little bigger than a football.
