Hey guys, I have a new Browning A-bolt 270. I need to know what suggestions are out there about what grain to shoot. Hunting deer out to about 250 yards. But mostly around 75 yds. Thanks for the help

140gr is the best of both worlds. I like the Accubonds for hunting and SGK BTSP for practice (sub MOA and cheaper).

IMR4350 or RL17 are the cat's pajamas, as well as H4831, RL19, RL22 and many others. The .270 is usually not hard to load for.

EastTN got it exactly right. If you handload, play with overall length, should be shooting sub moa with that rig.

130 gr. Interbonds, Accubonds, Sciroccos. A ton of other bullets work as well, just find one that shoots good out of your gun and go kill stuff. The 130 gr Sierra Gameking is a good cheaper bullet that shoots good out of most 270s, and kills well.

I split the difference and go with 140s (Accubonds) provided the rifle will shoot them. I've got an older Winchester 70 lightweight that hates heavier bullets. It prefers 130s by a long shot.

I'd shoot what the gun shoots best. 110 grain Barnes, 130 grain IB, 130 grain Deep Curl, 140 grain Interlock, 130 grain NP.

One of my .270's likes 130 gr. IB's and the other one won't shoot a group under 2 inches. The other likes 130 gr. Gamekings.

Solid advice no matter if you shoot factory or reloads. No one can predict what your gun will shoot. Rick's advice is sound.

270's have long necks. that usually favors heavy bullets, since the bullet can be seated properly without getting into your powder column. i prefer 140 or 150 due to the higher ballistic coefficiency and sectional density. any will work fine

Yep, a lot of successful bullets for the 270 Win's, which is my favorite rifle caliber.

I've killed elk, mule deer, whitetails, coyotes, and prairie dogs. with my Browning A-bolt 270. The gun's favorite bullet was a Winchester Supreme 130 grain Silvertips. I don't think Winchester sells them anymore. I once shot a 3-round group of 0.75" at 200 yards! I won a free lunch that day. Even better, I was using a 1984 Tasco "World Class" scope with duplex reticle.

i have noticed standard cup and core bullets shoot the best in my guns, over the bonded or partitioned bullets. on 150 pound TN whitetails shouldnt be an issue anyway. If i had to shoot factory fodder, i would try the federal power shoks. they are said to be very concentric

For me the 130s gave quicker kills and shorter runs than the 150s when shot through the chest. I nearly always used the 130 Sierra GKs.

Factory ammo...Hornady custom 140's. 140's have a bit more weight and better BC then the 130's

Handloads...I like the interlock or SST in 140 over 56.5 gr of Rl22. sub moa groups (1/4 in), and lots and lots of dead deer from 35-400 yards.
