What would it cost to dig and pour a 50x40 basement and pour a concrete roof for it..

There isn't near enough information in your question for a rational answer. What type of soil? Is there rock and if you say no, are you willing to absorb the cost of rock removal? Is the site level, sloped or mountain goat country? Poured walls? How thick for the walls if poured and how thick do you want the ceiling to be? See what I mean? It is very easy to build yourself a house that will not be worth what you have in it when it comes to poured concrete walled basements and associated costs. The statement "I've got more than that in it" has been repeated over and over.

On a level lot and not very rocky... and as far as walls and ceiling I'm open to recommendations... just trying to get a very general idea on cost

If there are any foundation companies in the area, I'd call them. I will tell you that the cost of a poured concrete basement isn't going to be worth much more, if any, than a cinder block wall foundation, should you decide to sell. The concrete ceiling/roof will be a bear to figure. There are plumbing and electrical issues to deal with that need a lot of thought before the work begins.

As far as the ceiling go with concrete span deck instead of pouring. It's a lot faster and a lot more easy to deal with when it comes to utilities.

call your local concrete supplier and give the dispatcher your measurements and they will give you the yards needed and the cost. You will have to factor in any leveling , steel rods, steel joists for ceiling, any labor , waterproofing ,etc. etc.
