I used the Senate for a link but feel free to expound from any Federal elected office. Some of you posters in this forum are strikingly intelligent and I think a round table discussion of our ideas to fix this absolute mess would be informative at the very least.

My own list, in no particular order other than #1.

1. I would order an immediate withdrawal of troops in Afghanistan. No sense in risking further injury or death to our nation's finest when its going back into Taliban hands anyway.

2. We'd deploy troops to the Mexican border with standing orders to shoot to kill inside our perimeter. I'd even be nice and post signs in Spanish saying so. Same for Canada.

3. We'd balance the budget and amend the Constitution requiring it. Tax breaks for everyone with skin in the game once the national debt is paid off.

4. We'd go to a flat tax system.

5. The rule of law would be strictly enforced.

6. Freedom trampling agencies and laws would be abolished.

7. We'd explore our nation's oil preserves to the utmost.

8. English would be established as the national language and required for citizenship.

9. Illegal immigrants would be detained, collected centrally and sent back to their country of origin.

10. I would bludgeon social program spending.

Thats my quick .02, lets hear some ideas.

* If you receive food stamps, social welfare, or government handouts, you don't get to vote. A person should not be allowed to vote themselves a handout from somebody else's pocket.

* If you never paid into social security, you can't ever collect from it.

I am a firm believer that 99% of our problems can be traced back to taxation of labor. I think if that single issue is addressed, a large portion of the rest would solve themselves over time, including illegal immigration and welfare.

Stop punishing success and rewarding failure and you'll see people behave and VOTE more responsibly. Remove the federal withholding and people are going to start caring A LOT about where their money goes.

Whoever controls the money, controls the govt. Right now the govt controls the money. Give that BACK to the people as it was intended and much of our ills would be reversed.

All the socialism is FORCED. Money is taken from the people at gunpoint. Take away the gun and you re-impower the people.

Without that socialism, there would not be an illegal immigration problem. Those coming here would really be coming here for jobs. No jobs = No immigration. Jobs available, we NEED immigration. It would regulate itself.

We can reverse it all just by removing the 16th amendment.

IMO

Government is a necessary evil, end the need for the evil and all will be well.

If I wanted to answer problems I wouldn't choose government as the vehicle to do it since government isn't nor was it ever the answer to problems.

People that constantly support government as an answer to anything have the attention span of a nat. If government was the answer to problems don't you think it's current size would've eliminated any problems? It hasn't eliminated one problem since it's beginning and only added to them all the while being highly inefficient and grossly abusive of power.

You may say it ended slavery, really? If it did then why the civil rights movement 100 years later and still counting?

Let me splan in simple english, government groupies have empowered the government to be gigundous and at the same time enriched this highly inefficient, grossly abusive power with the most advanced weapons of all time all the while the groupies try and hold on to 30 round clips they can only use in their semi auto pee shooters. Were screwed and some think an election with evil and a lesser evil will solve anything. Morons.

The irony is ....the problem is the federal government.

Point by point from wars, to taxation, entitlements, over regulation, immigration, non enforcement of laws, deficits, etc. All of this is courtesy of a giant federal government which is exactly what The Founders went out of their way to limit.

More irony... we all know what the problems are and we all know how to fix them. Think of the political chain emails that go around detailing exactly which laws we need. The solutions are there and nothing ever comes about politically. It is a travesty that Bob Corker ran essentially unopposed in 2010 and that Lamar Alexander to date has no Republican challenger.

If I were an elected official and could have my way;

1) The federal Dept. of Education would be abolished. States would be free to run their school systems as they see fit.

2) EPA would immediately cease the war being waged on fossil fuels, farmers, local governments, and business.

-CO2 would no longer be a pollutant.

-If a farm, business, or local government produces waste that is potentially harmful to humans or the environment, you would be free to handle it as you see fit so long as you can scientifically prove your method is not harmful.

- VA hospitals would be improved drastically or some administrators would be serving time in jail.

- No more infringement on the 2A. Government officials who attempt to restrict it will be prosecuted for civil rights violations.

-Citizens would be encouraged to arm themselves and learn how to handle their weapon. No programs for this.. just verbal encouragement.

-The ethanol mandates, especially the one requiring 40% of the corn crop to be processed into ethanol, would be history.

-Farm subsidies would end. Farmers would be free to create their own safety nets with tax deductible contributions to their own private programs.

-Federal OSHA offices would be shut down and all related land, structures, etc. would be sold to the highest private bidders. Private entities would be free to develop their own safety standards by working with the insurance providers they use to cover workplace injuries.

-Unless on a trip that truly represents the interest of the country, the President's wife and children would have to travel at their own expense.

-Congress would be subject to the same rules, regulations, policies, and health insurance as the average private citizen.

-Lobbyists and anyone who has contributed PAC money or donated to a political party within the last two election cycles would be barred from visiting the White House as guests.

- Hiring, employing, harboring, entering into a contract (written or unwritten, including hiring them to cut your grass) with an illegal alien would be a federal offense and would result in fines equal to at least three times the monetary benefit you may have received or payed them.

-If a congressman ever again suggested too many boots on the ground may sink or capsize Guam, he would be ridiculed until he resigned his office.

They absorb challengers so they do not get primaried

Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn, said she would NOT challenge Lamar Alexander. Of course this was no surprise as she has already endorsed Alexander and serves as a campaign co-chair.

First, let's assume I'm not an elected official (because we all know elected officials can get nothing done in today's government). Instead, let's assume that after participating in a 2nd Revolution, I'm elected by my fellow patriots to be temporary dictator of America with absolute power to fix the problems that have built up over 200 years of mismanagement.

1) Write and publish an accompanying document to the Constitution, explaining in great detail what each Amendment in the Bill of Rights means, why it was originally created (what problem existed and what remedy was needed to fix that potential problem) for the purpose of greatly reducing misinterpretation of the Constitution by Judges, Lawyers and the Government.

2) Re-assess every decision the Supreme Court has ever made, undoing the 80+% of their decisions that have been wrong, and all laws linked to those incorrect decisions.

3) Work with the brightest minds in the Country to develop a non-partisan police force with the power to arrest any elected official, including the President, for violations of the Constitution. This police force would focus specifically on seeking out abuse of power. Abuse of power will be declared one of the worst crimes that can be committed, at every level where one citizen has power over another, with extreme punishments attached. Figuring out how to prevent this ultimate governmental police force from being able to abuse its power would be the tricky part.

4) Re-evaluate all Federal employment, eliminating everything that is not ESSENTIAL to Federal governance. This would eliminate at least two-thirds of all federal jobs and many entire Departments, such as Labor, Energy, and Education.

5) Implement a flat income tax and ALL income--every dollar made--is taxed at the same percentage, no deductions.

6) Assess every single person who gets any government assistance of any kind. Only people who are incapable of working due to complete physical and/or mental incapacitation will receive assistance. A kind and caring society takes care of those who, through no fault of their own, are incapable of taking care of themselves.

7) Implement two-term term limits on all elected federal offices, and strongly urge states to do the same.

8) End all federal business/industry subsidies of any kind.

9) Implement 2-year mandatory federal/military service for all citizens. Those who prefer not to enter the military can serve by performing what had previously been paid federal clerical and physical labor jobs.

10) Require passing a "knowledge of the issues" test before citizens are allowed to vote.

11) Require elected officials to pass a "knowledge of the bill" test before being allowed to vote yes or no. Those elected officials who fail more than three of these tests during a single term are immediately sent packing.

12) Work with the brightest minds in the Country to revamp our election process, with the goal being to eliminate the influence of money on election results (I honestly cannot think of a workable system yet).

13) Enforce all of our immigration laws, fortify and protect our borders, and revamp our immigration policy with the goal of attracting the top minds, talent, and lovers of liberty in the world to our country.

14) After all of these are accomplished, resign my dictatorship and turn the country back over to the people.
