We went to the Cove late yesterday. Ate at the picnic area then started around about 1930. Saw 8 turkeys, 42 deer and 5 bears. The fields are in very bad shape for viewing anything. About all you cold see of the deer was heads popping up and their backs above the grass.

One bear on Hyatt Lane was feeding on something on the ground her cub was in a tree. Another momma with 2 cubs was where you turn off the main loop road to go to the Abrams Falls parking lot. she was on the ground and the cubs were playing tag in a tree. With the grass so high and the leaves on the trees, it was hard to see anything very good.

Traffic was very light. More like after Labor day then June.

Sounds like a great mini-adventure.

BTW, Happy Birthday!

I've only seen one bear up there since mom and dad took me for the first time when i was younger.
We never really grow up, we only learn how to act in public.

You do not need a parachute to skydive. You only need a parachute to skydive twice

Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.

Traffic light in Cades Cove??? I didn't think that ever happened anymore. Yeah, the last time I was up there (June 2012) the grass was real tall and it was hard to see much. But the cars were bumper to bumper.

You can usually see bears more this time of year, they like to eat the cicadas, so I've been told.
