I just replenished my permethrin supply and it got me thinking...

Do you think those dastardly bugs that I so dearly hate will evolve quickly enough to develop an immunity to permethrin in our lifetime? Sometimes I have awful nightmares that the permethrin on my clothes doesn't work anymore and I'm overcome by mosquitoes, ticks and chiggers. In these horrific dreams I spook the new typical world record buck because he saw me swatting away mosquitoes in my stand, or I get lyme disease and miss the rest of the season, or worst of all I scratch my arm so much it gets terribly infected and requires amputation, ending my bowhunting forever. Every time I walk into the woods I wonder if it's the day that permethrin won't work it's magic anymore. I watch with great anxiety as that first mosquito tries to make his move, and then breathe a huge sigh of relief when I see it quickly change course to avoid my permethrin force field. Oh, what I would give for the piece of mind to know that this wonderful synthetic chemical won't ever be defeated by biological evolution for at least another 25 or 30 years! ;\)

There's always fire. They haven't evolved a resistance to THAT yet.

What ratio do you mix yours for the sprayers. For your clothing that is sprayed.

Don't worry. Ticks aren't as smart as cockroaches!

I buy the 10% permethrin and cut it 20:1 with water for a .5% final solution. Best stuff for ticks/chiggers ever!

It is entirely possible. If the overuse of hand sanitizer can cause mutations to germs rendering them immune to the stuff, then I wouth think that EVENTUALLY the targeted bugs would do the same. How quickly this happens depends on the amount and frequency of use by people and whether or not the surviving exposed bugs populations will be high enough to actually meet by chance and then mate to a level that enough offspring are born to survive the natural elements. I am no scientist but I would figure that if people started mixing it up with what they put on themselves, all of this could be prevented. So I would suggest mixing it up between DEET and permethrin.

I have been using it for well over 20 years. I do not see any danger.
