I'm not a fan of ketchup based BBQ sauce either. If you use it, I'd advise not using Ketchup that contains corn syrup -I can't stand the state of corn syrup. Ketchup without HFCS can sometimes be tricky to find, depending on where you shop. Heinz has a Organic Tomato line out that uses real sugar.

If your looking for something in the non tomato line that is sweet and spicy this is what I go with...
1 1/2 Cup distilled white vinegar
1 tsp of your favorite hot sauce
2 Tbs Brown Sugar
1 TBS Salt
2 Tsp Crushed red pepper
2 Tsp black pepper

Simple yet has a great taste

I use Panola Cajun Hot Sauce. I love the taste of it in anything, I put it in different sauces, marinades, you name it.
This is the cut back version of the recipe, I mixed up 5 gallon today for a bbq this coming weekend.

i like it. someone of this stuff now seems better fitted to pour on pancakes or french fries rather than ribs or pork shoulder

Agreed redblood, when I cook I always have "mixed company" so I have to mix up a couple different kinds of sauce. I have quit making tomato based sauce because I either just hate it or don't know how to make it. When I mix it up I always get a funny can't describe it taste. For those who like something a little thicker on their meat I make the mustard sauce I posted earlier and I will make the one above for the rest of the people.

I have bought it at the local Fred's in town and I have also bought it at Sam's and the GFS in Cool Springs. Ha I have a very large family and several friends coming over. I will have some left over for another pig roast I'm doing first of August and I have a couple friends who always take some with them. Oh yea my favorite Chicken marinade has that hot sauce in it. 1 1/2 Cup Soy Sauce and 3 Tbs of Panola Cajun hot sauce soak for about 4 hrs and grill. Its amazing imo.

I did a 75 lber for a friends birthday a few weeks ago. Those little ones are some good eating. I'd prefer a 80lber over a 200lber anyday.
