She's in a 2 ton vehicle and sees this on the road. almost hit the ditch trying to get away from it. I told her that it couldn't break through the glass. Copperhead or water snake?

Probably looks like Dog Doo at 50mph, she didn't want to sling it all over the wheel well.

Ive spent many an hour talking to my wife/kids about "dodging" critters in a vehicle.. Many a fatality has taken place from folks dodging a dog or cat. Obviously the need to dodge comes about when we're talking Great Dane, Cow, Horse, etc but any critter 100lbs and under is bumper bait with my crew vs hitting the ditch.

I advise not to dodge anything in your lane. You go from something being not your fault to potentially your fault in terms of insurance.

In most cases I agree however there are exceptions where somethings legs are long enough to feed it through the windshield into your face, which I have seen happen 1st hand - not a pretty sight. In most cases I agree with you however at some point common sense and self preservation have to play a role

Good thing was that she was on our private drive. Probably 20mph or less due to all the curves. Snake was in middle of road. I was tickled that she would swerve to miss the snake instead of just right over top of it with it between the wheels. I doubt it was long enough to be hit if centered.

I am with Kimber, I don't dodge squat.

I have found the critter stands just as good a chance if I hold steady anyway.
