Yesterday was definitely an experience. I managed to finish the Gibson Guitar 5k, even though at times I felt overwhelmed. This was my first time to run in such a crowd....over 1900 runners participated. I found myself surrounded the entire race. I was constantly looking around and behind me trying to just stay clear of any contact......very nerve racking. The first mile was more running around people and slowing down to keep from running up people's backs...lol. I guess with repetition I'll get used to running in those sort of crowds. The heat and crowd resulted to my worse time ever....31:10, but I'm not complaining. I gained valuable experience, had the satisfaction of finishing and got to see an old TA friend......Marilyn Duke.

Anyway, thanks to my wonderful wife, Pam, for putting up with my new passion. I'm sure that she would have rather spent her day at the pool instead of down on Beale, in the heat!!

Oh and another great thing...I ran the entire race with a pain free foot! With the cortisone shot and the new BROOKS shoes, all I had to worry about hurting was the rest of my body...lol!!

enjoy!!

i have run a few organized races, but much rather run 8 or 10 miles through the country where the only thing that is measured is the distance.

These races are for charity, not bragging rights... Times are kept for the benefit of very few. My time is more for my benefit. For personal goals. Not to beat anyone.

How often do you run 8-10 miles...that's very good?!

awesome......!! At my age of 56, I'm just happy to be able to do the 5Ks even though I have been doing a few five milers on my own....I used to run regularly in college, but quit and just started back this year.

I would like to do a 10K one day, strictly for my own benefit and entertainment, of course.

I watch these true runners that finish these races like this in 16:00 and I am simply amazed until I see them....usually very thin and most very tall and most have been running for many years....The exact opposite of ME!!

lol

I got fat in college and started (1997). it is an addiction that has over taken deer hunting. if i dont run, i am miserable. as a teacher, we run up huge miles in the summer. when the school yr starts, it drops off quite a bit. i am not fast enough to win anything real competetive for sure. people who dont run, dont know what they are missing.

until I got back in to it, I had no idea how many races there are in the west tenessee area every year......Memphis has a racing series, with a grand champion...etc. Memphis may have two or three races the same weekend, some on the same day. Lots of 5Ks around Jackson as well....Millington is having one of those Color Me Rad runs this coming weekend...I'm not so sure that I woukld enjoy getting bombed with colored corn starch while trying to run..lol. I think that I will pass....lol. All the races are for charity, of course.

My little town of Brownsville has only one per year, to my knowledge, the Marla Angotti memorial...

Marla died of cancer at a very young age. Proceeds go to cancer funds, I believe.

enjoy.
