One of the things that impressed me about the Covert is I had several pics (2-3) of song birds flying across the frame. This was with single pic setting and no delay between pics. To me that is one fast trigger!!

I have noticed it does have a sensor area wider than the camera which leads to some empty frames but with its battery life I haven't worried about it.

I have noticed the same thing. Numerous times I have had deer "hang up" a few feet outside of the camera viewing area while the sensor caused the camera to fire away. Occasionally, a nose, foot, or tail would show up in the outer edge of the photo. The way I have gotten around it is to put black electrical tape on both sides of the PIR sensor to narrow the sensing area. This causes the subject to be closer to the center of the frame before taking a photo.

W.Seay - Are you at liberty to share where/what your source for $139.99 is? The cheapest I can find is $149.99...

Wes,

So many of these Chinese-made cameras have problems either right out of the factory or soon after deployment that I'm really hesitant to recommend any brand anymore. Every brand has problems with reliability.

For me, it's now about which units have the best features at the best price, but knowing you're going to have some bad units from time to time.

Any idea how much less night illumination you get with only 40 LEDs instead of 60?

The MP6 Black has a flash range of 45 ft., the Black 60 has a flash range of 60 ft. While the Black 60 produces noticeably brighter photos, the MP6 Black is certainly adequate for most situations.

Thanks for the info on illumination distance. For salt licks, feeders, bait piles, or scrapes, I think you're right about 45-foot illumination distances being good enough. But at times, I like to point cameras across narrow food plots, and that's when extra illumination is helpful (of course, that's also where a flash extender can be so useful).

As mentioned earlier, a few nighttime photos from both models are blurry or out of focus. The slower shutter speed needed to gather enough light causes this. I have yet to see any black flash or infrared cameras that did not produce at least some blurry night photos. By setting the camera in burst mode, I am able to get at least some of the photos clearly focused.

I agree that ALL black-flash cams suffer from motion blur, due to the longer exposure times required for black-flash. Yet some black-flash cams take very blurry pictures, in that everything in the picture is "fuzzy." I want the crispest pictures I can get, even though I know I will still experience some motion blur on moving deer.

Well, you're a better man than I.
After the ongoing problems I had with the Uway NT50Bs, my purchases following all the great reviews they had on Chasingame, no way would I ever again consider ANY Uway.

I feel about Uway exactly like you (and I both) feel about Cuddeback: Overpriced junk. No way would I take another chance with either.

But I am favorably impressed with what I'm hearing about the DLC Covert cams. Just a little gun shy having heard similar about so many others, most of which never work as advertised, and commonly become useless about the time their warranties expire.

Don't worry about the warranty with DLC. Give them a call and they will take care of you if one of their cameras fail.
