So the way I am reading the site the G3 doesn't come with a trolling motor or any kind of depth finders / fish finders?

I would have a gotten a deep v of some kind but I could not find one that had an interior layout I liked. My 1756sc does me well but a deep v would ride much better for sure. Interesting that the v167 goes 36 mph with a 60. My boat with a 70 goes 37 mph at best measured by gps.

One thing I would do Ruger is get the largest trolling motor you can afford. I have a minnkota 52" shaft 80 lb maxxum on mine and love it. I have fished in some wind that a 45" would have been coming out of the water. Another great thing to have is a shallow water anchor pin. It take up no room in the boat and can be priceless if you need a push pole. works great for anchoring in shallow water (although I will have a powwer pole sometime soon). Need to come fish out of mine an afternoon and see what you think.

I am hoping I will like it but I am installing the humminbird 798 this afternoon.

I think most G3 packages come with an inexpensive Garmin depth finder on the console (emphasis on "I think"). You'll want something better eventually... but they'll do for starters.

The trolling motor is not included. While I think G3's are great... I don't care what kind of boat you have, put a Minn Kota i-Pilot trolling motor on it!!!

Get the most you can afford. I have the Terrova (24-volt, 70 lb. thrust). It's incredible. I can't say enough about how the i-Pilot... combined with Humminbird electronics and Lakemaster mapping, it's taken my fishing to a whole new level.

All of these questions depend a lot on really personal information like finances, in my opinion.

I won't go into debt to buy a "toy" like a fishing boat, so if I can't afford to go drop thousands on a new motor, then I would do what gets me by for this year, and then start saving. Then when I'm ready, I'm not paying interest on it and can possibly negotiate a better deal with cash.

If I decided that I wanted to buy a new boat/motor next year, I could scrimp/save enough to have a decent amount of money pulled together by next year. If I were in your situation, I'd have to do the patch job with the motor and plan the bigger purchase for either the winter or sometime next year.

The new G3 2014 models come out next month. Most G3 dealers are giving some real good deals on brand new 2012 and 2013 boats to make room for the 2014 models. Give them a low ball price you are willing to pay and see how much they will come off. Heck, I would see if they would give me 50% off and give the boat dealer 5 years of free advertising on TNdeer. Win/win for both.

Complaints are always based on the engine or the accessories... electronics, livewells, plumping, steering, etc. I'm on my second G3 and Yamaha 4-stroke. Other than routine maintenance neither one has ever been back to the dealer for any reason. And my boats are on the water getting hard use at least 80 days a year, usually more. I'm a G3 believer.

You have forgotten about Travis Boating Center. Anything made for them is usually garbage. Sprint no longer exists because of them.
