my wife wants a rifle to shoot at coyotes that come across yard and
drive, she's worry about the dogs. They are thick this year, killed 4 since start of turkey season, 3 while cutting the grass.

She hasn't shot a lot, pistols mainly, she watched an Hickock45 video today with him shooting 22 pump. I'm ruling another AR out, need simple, wish ruger made a 10/17, thinking of a 17 bolt gun.

any ideas?

she will never deer hunt I think so ruling out most center fire

Mr. Big had it right from many perspectives:
1. Inexpensive
2. Availability of ammo
3. Accuracy
4. No recoil
5. Can be used Deer hunting with right bullet.

Buckshot would be illegal for coyotes...... shot size must be "T" size or smaller...... Slugs would be legal however.

I'm with Mr.Big and would get her something in 223. Little H&R Handi Rifle would probably fit her nicely and won't weigh a whole lot. Or a youth model bolt action would fit the bill too.

Depends on how she shoots. Shotgun may be appropriate with a little bit of a wider pattern, or not. ;\)
