The problem is they weren't feeding on the mulberries, and not cutting any nuts (which aren't ready until typically late August) = just not the same as "classic" fall squirrel hunting when they're noisily cutting nuts, especially hickory nuts.

I'd rather just have more of this spring's squirrels survive to this fall when I can stalk the ones I hear cuttin'. \:\)
Check any bushes that are flowering. Squirrels love blooms and buds.

Yep, I recently watched a squirrel munch on a magnolia tree bloom for 45 minutes.

I don't know if I've ever killed more than 4 squirrels in one day os Spring squirrel hunting. In the big woods, it is brutally difficult. I've been hunting in my backyard and, granted, I've been letting the tiny ones go, I've only killed 9 this season. The only possible way it could be "easy" is to hunt squirrels in a neighborhood setting with a .22. I go running in the mid morning in my neighborhood and easily see 200-300 squirrels out in yards. It would be like a dream come true to be able to squirrel hunt the Central Gardens neighborhood of Memphis with no restrictions. A man's got to have a dream \:o
