This Fall (along with the next three) I'll be going to college in Martin. All of my hunting spots are near Natchez trace which is a 1hr 45min drive from Martin. I know Reelfoot NWR is an hour drive from there. Is the hunting good up there? My classes are set up so that I only have classes on M-W-F and one evening class on Thursday. I plan to come home on the weekends but would like to be able to have a place for Thursday mornings. For Tuesday any length drive will work but I don't want to end up being late for class on Thursdays.

Any good public land close to Martin?
Any good public spots in KY that would an hour 45min drive or less?

I'd like to find a good place in KY since their season opens early. I may also hunt some of LBL since its about a 1.5 hour drive.

All recommendations appreciated
-Thanks!

Theres public ground 10 mins from Martin. Go down 45 South and its between Sharon and Greenfield. Theres also some public ground in Ky thats about 25 mins from Martin. I could show you that sometime. Ive never hunted it, but know people who do and know where it is. I only live 10 mins from Martin.

I hunted Beech Ridge and a few public land places in Gibson Co. while I was at UTM. Like any other public land it's best to try to hunt it during the week, and you'll want to skip opening weekends.

What are you majoring in at Martin?

Tell Dr. Pelren Robert Brewer said hello! Tell him I could use any conclave information he would like to share too! He has my email!

Not sure if I have any of his classes but if he's in the Wildlife department I'll meet him eventually.

When I was at Martin I hunted beech ridge a few times, when you drive in take a left and when the road curves to the right go straight into the woods, there was an old slew in there, it's the only place I saw deer

I had one of Pelren's classes when I was there. That man can tell you more about grouse that you'd ever care to know lol. He's also got a few hunting stories to tell.

MC- I just posted a topic asking about obion river wma. I just moved to milan and will also be going to school in martin for wildlife biology. Small world I guess. Let me know about anything you figure out about the area and ill be sure to do the same for you. Maybe ill see you in class or we could meet up outside of school to do some scouting or maybe bust some squirrel heads when that season comes around.

Is the old Maness Swamp refuge still there? It was flooded for ducks but available to hunt through most of bow season up till around the 1st of November when I went to school at UTM. Saw several deer and turkeys and a couple pretty nice bucks when I hunted it back in the mid-late 90's.
