It's been months since I've shot my muzzle loading target pistol. I took a few sighter shots and then fired ten for record at 25 yards. One hand hold slow fire....95-2x. Room for improvement but I was still pleased.

The pistol is a Cimarron Lightning. I guess you would call it semi-custom as the builder manufactured a number of these along the same pattern. They were highly regarded on the pistol line at Friendship, Indiana in the NMLRA matches there. Unfortunately, they are no longer made. It seems the designer and builder went through a nasty divorce and the judge awarded his ex-spouse half the pistol business. As it was, he was the business and just quit building them altogether. Every now and then, you might see one on Gunbroker.

This particular pistol has a de Haas barrel in .32 caliber. The rear sight is a Bo-Mar. The trigger pull is adjustable with mine being set at somewhere around 3 ozs. My normal load for both 25 and 50 yards is 18 grs. Swiss 3fg and a patched Hornady "0" buckshot. The patch being lubed with a Ballistol-water mix. There's no doubt, in my mind, if I could hold steady enough an X ring sized group would be possible.

Anyway, I hadn't shot the durn thing in ages and was tickled to still be able to keep em in the black. Maybe next time I'll drag out my flintlock target pistol or modified Ruger Old Army to see if I can still hold them steady as well. \:\)

Had the cylinder shortened to hold 20 grs of powder and set the barrel back to the cylinder face. No fillers necessary when using lighter target loads as well as improving balance and reducing weight. New high quality sights were also installed along with a nice trigger job including a trigger stop install. Also if you look close you can see that the hammer has been skeletonize. It doesn't help with the accuracy but the frame and rammer have been color cased....kinda trickin it out.
