I am considering building a backyard fire pit. I want something that is substantial in size, rock or block construction. A fire pit that has a rugged elegance. I want it to look good and still serve it's basic purpose, serve as a focal point and gathering place.

Anyone have any photos of fire pits you have constructed? I need some ideas and inspiration.

Just buy a pallet of landscaping stones. Lay out a bottom level in a circle or whatever shape you want. Then just stack the rest around the edge. No mortar or anything needed. Takes a couple hours to try to match the prices together so it fits fairly stable, but really easy.

I am about to pour a patio and do the same thing. I am going to run a gas line from my house out there and make mine natural gas. I've been looking at burners online and wow they are high for no more than what they are. I am going to build my own out of tubing. It's going to be a fun little project.

I found several DIY fire pit videos on youtube this morning. I really like a couple of them. They look fairly easy to build.

Made a trip to Home Depot. The blocks I need are $2.48 each. I figure I need about 40 of them. With the grate and some gravel I should be able to build for it about $150. I will post a picture when I get it finished.

A little field stone and a cheap fire pit works pretty good. I need to spray a little Gly4 too LOL

Thinking about a small patio around my pit now. Going to get some more stones for my fire pit. I want the patio for the Clay oven cooker I am looking at building.

I am finally enjoying my back yard again, except the mowing lol

This is one we bought at Lowes and its sitting on the patio. Thats the first fire in it from tonight while we roasted dogs and smores. Eventually we want to build a fireplace at the end of the patio.

This one is about 60 yards behind the house and is just stacked rock.

I'm glad you posted. Camping this weekend sitting by the fire Sunday night I was thinking.....I've got to build me a fire pit in the backyard.

I like the design of some of those. I think I have enough of those stacked blocks or whatever left over I might could build one.

This is what I started this weekend.
We already had the firepit and 4 stones down. Added the other stones and swing.
Next week we will add one row to the end and one row to each side.
Then we will add a table of some sort on each side of the swing and add blocks around the firepit kinda like what poleaxe posted.

Rob Brooks of Lasting Impressions. He used to live around the corner from me. It was a 10' x 10' aggregate patio and is now 42' x 16' if I remember correctly. He added a sidewalk too from it to the driveway. We then added the covering a year later and sometimes wish I had covered the whole thing. Here's a few more pics.

Take my man card but I told the wife to check Pinterest and there is a ton on there. Some people dug round hole lined inside with bricks and put stone around top...looked good.

I started my Fire Pit project this afternoon. Got the ground marked and leveled out for the block work. The real work starts on Tuesday.

You beat me to it. They really do have some awesome and innovative ideas on their. I just rely on her finding things and showing it to me because I cant bring myself to getting my own account.
