Good luck tick! We didn't kill on this hunt but it was a great time. I think the year actually set us back a week early than from last year. They were just starting to get cranked up as we left. The weather to be honest was terribly hot, even at 9k feet, so the productive windows to hunt was very limited. I called a screaming bull in to about 30 yards and could not see the sucker through the thick brush. He eventually bedded down on me in the oak brush and I could literally hear him breathing. I don't know if they breathe that heavy cause they are such large animals or if he was trying to smell me. I actaully had that happen twice to me on this trip. Where we hunt has a lot of oak brush and those elk get right in the thick of it. Extremely difficult to impossible to stalk through that stuff. I wouldn't mind hunting elsewhere where there isn't any oakbrush. All in all it just makes me want it that much more for next year!

Ready to go. Rollin at 3pm this afternoon. Reports are Bulls bugling good in the area we are headed to. Forecast is highs low to mid 70s, lows in the upper 30s to mid 40s. Very little rain thru all of next week. My fifteenth trip to Colorado. Only part I dread is missing my two girls, 11 and 8. Always this way at the last minute, but when I get in camp the hunt is on. My main goal is to get some meat. I'll keep you guys updated, and good luck opening weekend of bow season if I'm not back.

GL! rut's in full swing from the reports I've been getting. Had a buddy hunt the same unit I did, but during the following week. He got to within 80 yds of a satellite 6x, but wind shifted and he had to back out. The bull was apparantely screaming only 1/4 mile from an access road. the next morn he went back after him and found 4 or 5 other guys in there that the bull bugled up :). He ate tag soup, but had a great hunt except for all the rain. he got blisters on top of his blisters, just couldn't keep feet dry

Im back, just got in this morning, 5 am after a 20 plus hour straight drive from Glenwood springs. I did take a nice bull on public land with my bow, I'll post pics and story after a little rest.
