Let me pour myself a Guinness get on with the post.

Me and a buddy from another forum, ChemEAngler, had been wanting to do a backcountry fishing trip for awhile. The wetter than normal spring and him being out of town a bunch meant we had to wait later than we wanted to get out. Well, we made it this weekend.

Packed and ready.

We had agreed to meet up at Little River Outfitters in Townsend and head out from there. I'd had some reoccurring car issues on my way to LRO and was running later than I had wanted to, so I intended to make up for lost time by hauling arse up the trail. The trail starts out as an old roadbed, but by the time we were 4.9 miles from the trailhead, it was nothing but a single dirt track.

We took our only break about 2.5 miles up the trail. There just happened to be a friendly couple there that were kind enough to take our picture.

We got camp set-up and ate lunch.

Rule #1; take a picture of the river before you start fishing. If the fishing is good, you might not stop to do it later.

Rule #2; always take a picture of the first fish you catch. It might be your only one and without it, a fishing report turns into a "walking with your fishing pole" report. Maybe this should be rule #1??

The river looked awesome.

ChemEAngler working a run.

One of my better rainbows.

This was my only brook trout. ChenEAngler caught several, but I only managed this one solitary brookie.

I also caught a brown, completing my slam, but failed to get a picture of it. At least ChemEAngler saw it and can confirm that I did have one. I don't always tell the truth when it comes to fishing.

A couple gratuitous river shots for those of you that don't get a chance to get out and enjoy this style of fishing.

This was an old river bed from before the river had changed course.

We only ended up getting to fish Friday afternoon/evening because the rain rolled in Friday night and it continued to pour into Saturday. I did end up catching several dozen fish and had a really good trip. We will be doing this again in the near future. I still owe ChemEAngler some backcountry fees, so the next trip is on me. I hope you enjoyed our little trip.

If you want to read his version of the trip you can check it out here.
