Tophat and I have agreed to host a couple of regional bass tournaments this summer. Tophat will be hosting on Kentucky lake or Barkley. I will be hosting on Chickamauga and possibly Watts Bar.

This is a big long state. To make if accessible to as many Tndeer.com members as possible we need to adopt a regional format.

Still Looking for a coordinator/tournament director of other regions of the state.

South East TN........Kirk
North East TN........Need a Volunteer
Middle TN............Need a volunteer
NW Tennesse..........Need a volunteer
West Tennessee.......Tophat.
West TN may need two divisions like the Eastern end does.

Anyone that volunteers will need access to scales and some way to measure fish. I can email you basic rules and ideas to get it the tournament off the ground.

I will do whatever I can for the NW Tennessee corner.

You will have to help me though, never fished in a tournament, much less helped organize one. \:D

Ruger,

75% of a hosting a tournament is the pre-tournament hype and sign-up. The weigh-in goes pretty easy if you are set up for it.

The key to an efficient weigh-in is to have scales that are accurate and can be tared out to adjust for the weight of the basket you put the fish in. Some people use clear plastic weigh bags.

Since I run so many tournaments a summer I have some real cool stuff. However, most people use a laundry basket to hold the fish.

You will also need a golden rule to measure the fish with to make sure they meet the legal minimum length.

I will post a few more times to walk you through it. Don't want a giant post. \:D

The sign-up:

Have everyone that enters sign a Liability Waiver. Protects you and Tndeer.com from getting sued. (I have one designed that I can email you).

The sign-up sheet is straight forward and I can email you an Excell version.

Draw for blast off numbers. Have a bucket with numbers in it. As they sign up they draw a number. Highest number drawn usually gets to call off the numbers. (I will send you a blast off sheet as well.) I suggest a single file blast off. Shotgun blast offs are dangerous in a small area.

Set a return time that is written in stone. If you select 2:PM as the end of the tournament, then 2:01 is late and they are disqualified. You will need to set a known time source such as readily available cell provider IE Verizon. The cell phones on that system are usually synced. You need to have a spotter looking for late arrivals.

The weigh-in should be handled as efficiently as possible. If 2PM is the tournament end time set a weigh in time for at least 2:10 to give yourself time to get everything set up. I would advise that you tell everyone to keep their fish in their livewells until the scales are open. Saves a lot of stress on fish.

Have a helper write down the weights on the sign-up sheet.

As they approach the scales they will try to hand you fish. Don't take them. Make them retrieve the fish from the bags and place them gently in the basket. Have them call out their name loudly and give the helper time to find the name on the list.

DON'T allow them to dump the bag water and all in the basket. OLD TRICK TO ADD WEIGHT.

Always measure the shortest fish they present. If it is short they are DQed.

Once the fish are in gently pour out any excess water. Place them on scales. Fish flop and the scales will go crazy. Pick up the basket and gently set it back on the scales. Most of the time they will settle down long enough to get a weight. Once you see a solid weight call it and mark it.
