Anyone her crow hunt? My 13 year old son was given a bag of decoys (crow and an owl) and a call. He sits outside and is getting pretty good at calling them up to the house. Season starts in a few weeks. I have never crow hunted, so does anyone have any tips?

This site has good information about crow hunting, including recipes so you can "eat crow"!

Only hint I have is from killing California Crows, way back when. They have a peculiar odor about them...Actually, They stink. Least, i think they stink.

They can move near as fast as a dove, You'll have a blast.

Watch out for those over-grown grackels!
They can look just like a young crow!

Wish we had a blackbird season coinciding with crow season.

One thing I found out is they fly as hi as the tallest tress.

The others have covered the basics. Camo everything! Don't call them too much....and never from the same spots. They grow very call wise very fast. They often will send a scout bird to a call to check things out. Not in every case though...some times there will be 3-4 birds come in at once. Whatever the not miss if the scout bird comes in. Your hunt will be over if you do. You will hear them raise Cain in the distance but wont really come in range. Don't call too loud...they can hear very well and a low volume call will call in more than a loud one. They do fly in at treetop I always hunt them from pines or cedars if I can.

My strategy is to call them in...and let the scout bird/birds come in and don't shoot and don't move to. They will always circle...if they are convinced something is legit...they will call the other crows in thick and heavy. Often times they will come in thick and then begin to land in trees around you. When by myself this is when I begin shooting...I can kill 3-4 in real quick session and then the rest will circle a few more times allowing a single person several shot opportunities per set. Sometimes decoys work good...sometimes they don't pay no attention.
