I am pretty sure that my 5 year old is left eye dominant. He passes the "test" as right eye, but I don't think that he is doing it correctly. When he goes to shoot, he looks through the site with his left eye. I tell him to close the left if he has to, but he can't. The only way that he can look through it with is right eye is for me to cover his left with my hand.

Anybody ever had this trouble with a kid? What did you do? I really want him to shoot right handed. I am thinking about buying him a patch for his left eye as he learns to shoot.

What do you think???

His dominant eye is going to be dominant. Your best bet is to have him shoot left handed. I know, it sucks \:\( Your next best option is to have him wear a patch or put a piece of scotch tape on his shooting glasses that will obscure the front sight if he's shooting irons. My wife is left eye dominant, so I'm going through the same thing (she's not 5 though).

My daughter is the same way.. your best long term bet is for him to shoot left handed ..when i figured out my daughter was that way we did the scotch tape trick and she has won 3 or 4 state titles trap shooting along with 1 national title .. she is 15 now..

My daughter is the same way. I put elec tape over the left eye of her shooting glasses b/c she's right handed. She shoots fine like this, until she can close her left eye on her own that is.

I am right hand, left eye dominant. I tried shooting left handed for years. It just never felt right. Heck I can't write my name with my left hand, no wonder shooting with it was never right.

I bought a $2.00 eye patch at Wally World, problem solved.

So, is she shooting RH handed since you say that you used the scotch tape trick???

I actually never thought of using tape on glasses. Great idea. I feel sorry for the little fellow when he tries to close his left eye but just can't. \:\)

you should keep both eyes open at all times when shooting, bow, pistol, rifle or shotgun

the tape thingy works great but I like to use chapstick better.

have shooter mount weapon with their shooting glasses on, while they are aiming make a smudge about the size of a dime that will be centering on the eye

even with blurring the eye you will also pick up some eye strength and will not loose all of the perrifial[sp] vision that is sometimes needed

I have a hunting buddy that is also right handed and left eye dominant. He can't shoot anything with a high cheek weld. But, he is a heck of a shot. I think it would be a disadvantage to wear a patch while hunting in order to use the right eye.
