I have had to remove two nests this spring from a gutter downspout on my house. The bird/birds keep building a nest in the bend of the downspout between the downspout and the brick.

Does anyone have any tips to prevent this?

Shoot them, depending on what type. For me I just let them be. Robins in my case.

A rubber snake on the downspout might help.

A good size rubber snake, or just a long black rubber hose.
They have to be a decent size, if too small bird, especially mockingbirds will just attack it and keep flying in pecking at it.
Got them laying all over my house, no more bird nests.
Got the idea from my fiances pappaw, hes been doing it for 50 years. He told me "them dadgum things find new nest spots, so just buy more hoses youngin"

Hard to explain. But build a Roos deterrent. Something with several spikes sticking up. For example, a thin board with several nails or screws sticking up. Tie it to the gutter so they can't land and build a nest.

Something like this.

I've got 'em on my outdoor speakers also. I'm just leaving them alone.
