Okay, I'm only a couple of years into this and haven't quite got the hang of when to look out for the seed sales and such. Seems I missed some options for getting some food plot corn back in February and March. I need about #100 for a few acres I'm doing for the turkey and deer. I don't need RR or anything special. The stuff I got last year was a real hit with the critters. It was a hoot to watch the turkey parade into the fields in a line of 24!

Anyone have a good source in central or west-central TN? Everything I'm finding now is pretty steep. Thanks, and I'll get the hang of this yet.

Most local co-ops are probably moving quite a lot of seed corn as we're smack dab in the middle of planting season (which is probably driving the price and avalability). You should be able to simply call them and ask what they have, price, and when the next shipment is available. We get most of ours from Mid-South on Hwy 18 in Bolivar.

And, keep in mind, the old saying I have always lived by (past down by my great grandfather) is that if you get corn in the ground by July 4th it will make hard corn before the first frost. So, don't think you have to be in any real big hurry. I know, I know, a lot of people are planting now and there's nothing wrong with that; that's good, but don't think you have to. It seems I end up planting corn more often than not in June and it has done great, even in the hottest years. I've never had trouble getting seed from my local Co-op when I was ready for it.

Thanks, Tickweed.

The NWTF website sure doesn't make it easy to find or contact chapters in various states. The only one I'm coming up for a contact in Bolivar is Mark Jackson. Any guidance you can give me? Sorry for being such a pain. Thanks for the help.

I ordered 50# of Wapsie Valley from these people.

http://openpollinated.com/

I can't remember the exact price but, it was around $120 or so. The plus side is that I can save my seed and replant it next year and they are reporting good BPA, drought tolerance and a high (up to 12% has been reported) protien level. I'm not getting mine in the ground for a few more weeks so I can't report on how it does.
