What do you call the place a dove or other bird stores the seeds it eats in their throat?

My 12th grade daughter told me it was called something other than what I have called it and heard it called all my life.

What do you call it?

I have always called it a Craw she told me it was a Crop.
What are they teaching our kids these days? lol

Crop.

Some call it a crall or crawl but technically it is a crop.

The proper term is "craw".
Some college professor had a typo and it become a "crop" in academia.
Down where I'm from, it's a craw.

We also have crawdads, while those in academia incorrectly refer to them as crayfish.

Also, in academia, they pronounce pecan, "PEE-CAN".
While the correct term for "PEE-CAN" is slop jar.

Go figure.

Actually, our "intellectual" President has been instrumental in trying to get this changed (it's part of his "hope & change" package).

But so far, about all he's accomplished has been in creating the Navy CORPSEmen.

It's actually the Corps of Engineers. Corps is pronounced like core, just like the Marine Corps. I hear more people pronounce Corps like corpse than any other thing. \:\)

Nope, always been the Crop. Craw is slang when it is referring to a bird's crop. Craw means your throat, as in Stuck in my Craw.

"In modern seed-eating birds the crop provides storage, so that a number of seeds can be gathered quickly and then processed later in a more secure location without interference from competitors and/or predators. The mucus in the crop softens hard seeds so that they are more easily ground by the gizzard"

Ever hear someone say Bubba is raising a real crop of hooligans?

Seeds form a crop, which is a related group. Like bubba's kds

It can be crop anywhere but here in the South. I say craw because my family called it that. They can't all be wrong. \:\)

My daughter thanks I'm ignorant, she might just be on to something there. I think her biology teacher needs a lesson in southern terminology! ;\)
