We were planning a road trip for a small group from our church. Most are middle age. I've read there is a 3/4 mile round trip walk involved, which doesn't bother us, but I've also read where the return walk involves a steep incline. This may be hard on the knees of some. Anyone have any first hand knowledge of the system? Thanks

There is a climb to get out but I think you can just take your time and stop as needed.

It's a decent climb, mention it to your tour guide and they will take that into consideration as you come out. I have family that gave tours there and they were told to always slow the tour down coming out for people that struggled to keep up with the group.

Thanks. I'm more concern with the knees of a couple of the ladies. Most of it is paved from my understanding, so I'll be just fine.

It's also good to remember that there are no restrooms on the hike. :-) I had to jog back out with a 3 year old that really needed to pee.

Yeah I never heard about that happening.
But as far as thier knees, its not a bad walk back up, parts are steep though. But they will get to rest ,they have benches set up and everything. So it should be ok

Heres the news link to it. It was 6th grade.

18 sixth grade students at Etowah City School found themselves swimming in The Lost Sea, according to school officials. The Lost Sea attraction is located off Interstate 75 near Sweetwater. The students were floating in a boat on the underground lake during a field trip.Lost Sea officials said weight was not properly divided in the boat because all of the adults were sitting in towards the back. The boat took on water and the students grabbed floatation devices and jumped into the lake.Teacher Duane Rikard helped the kidsinto a second boat nearby.  He said the event played out over five minutes.A Lost Sea spokesperson said the boat never fully sank and made it back to the dock."No one was in any real danger," said Rikard.  "It was mostly shock and a scary incident.""They [boats] are designed not to sink.  Even though the boat took on water, it would not have been able to sink," said Lisa McClung, Manager of The Lost Sea.McClung said the attraction is reviewing the incident.  She also said this is the first time a student has entered the water.
