Ray, when i think about your dad and I still do to this day, I never think about him being trustworthy. Not that he was not, but that quality was so overshadowed by his genuine love for his fellow man that little else mattered to me. I never saw your dad out in public when he didn't make an effort to shake hands and speak to everyone. I do not believe that he ever mistreated anyone. If he did, I have no knowledge of it.

I had a great deal of respect for your grandfather as well. He was a bit loud , brash and never shyed away from the use of profanity in public, but he too seemed to be as honest and FAIR as they come. I'm not sure how true the story is about him buying the motel, but I love it none the less. Much like your father, you always knew when Mr. Howard walked into a room.

I grew up with Mark, and spent time at their home, but Mr. Bill dying so young, I never knew him too well and never knew Mr. Raylie at all.

I did like your Uncle Joe , as well. My father and he ran abit together. Your father and he weren't the same type person so much, but they shared a kind heart , imo. Both men were very likeable, imo.

When your dad passed, a bit of Brownsville died with him, imo.

The truth is that "Brother" Powell was one of if not THE finest person that I have ever known and the world was a much better place while he was here.

Those that never knew him or just had the pleasure of meeting him one time missed out. imo.

I'm sure by now, God has appointed him "official greeter" right along side Saint Peter....

I hope that you take this as it is intended. I truly do.

Sometimes, the best way to honor someone is not simply to remember them and carry on their name, but to carry on their way of life as best as we can.

Your father was indeed a special and somewhat unique man, but I really believe that we all have a little "Brother Powell" in us if we could just allow it to come out.

There will never be another Brother Powell. That I am sure of. But, if we can simply remember him by showing as many of his characteristics as possible, then we can somehow carry on his legacy.

If we all shook someones hand and genuinely cared enough to ask how they were doing and their family was doing like Brother Powell did, then we would all be better off for it.

Your father was the only person to call me Mack. I never remember him NOT calling me that. I never remember anyone else calling me that and to be honest, I hope no one ever does.

He was a good man, and I'll leave it at that.
