What's the easiest way to paint an aluminum boat? What steps should be taken?

I use rattle cans on mine and get great camo jobs. Clean the surface, remove any debris then simply spray. I have done several and they all looked good and held up.

IMO if its bare clean aluminum, you need to put down some self etching primer first then what ever paint you choose. As far as the inside I just sprayed a friend of mines with monstaliner and it turned out really well. Same as above though had to be cleaned well, self etching primer layed and the the topcoat of liner.

Pressure wash it really good. Put the best primer coat on it you can and then paint it the color(s) you want.

There are some paints that are made for bonding to metals. Also, see if someone will rent you an electro-static painter. That's the best thing you can use.

I used rustoleum self etching primer and camouflage (olive green) rattle cans. Been over a year and still looks good, of course the bottom is scratched a bit but the sides look good. Would like to clear coat it maybe, but doesn't seem too necessary.

Oh and the prep was the worst. Old paint and bed liner was a nightmare to remove. Sanded down, washed with vinegar water and dried completely before priming and then painting.

Don't know why I was looking at painting alum boats, but in the research, someone had mentioned painting while it was cool. Cuts down on the paint shrinkage/cracking.
