I went in wal- mart out jackson to possibly buy some 308 ammo for my new remington 750 308. They had a good shipment this morning. I saw all the opened boxes that have the ammo stored inside. I wanted a couple of boxes to sight it in and to no avail the cashier said they have 8-10 guys who pull out the lawn chairs and wait for the 7 am selling time. I wish these guys would hurry up and get all they need. I would like to sight it in before deer season. If anyone has info how to join the wmlcc let me know. I need a box or two of 308 ammo.

I need a box of 150gr Federal blue box in 308 and 95gr Federal blue box 243 for the same thing, but if I don't get them, I'll hunt with black powder for rifle season too.

The guys in the lawn chairs probably have them listed on the web for 3 times what they gave for them.

They are not going to get all they need until we stop buying it from them for ludacris prices on gun broker etc. that is why they are buying it up, to resell it.

check Academy and you local Co-op. they may have some. I know they have in the Mid TN area. 308 hasn't been too hard here. It is the 9mm and .22Lr, but that is everywhere.

You could also just change manufactures and make a small sight adjustment. plenty of 243 out there. 308 is out there, you just have to spend the time to look.

Ha i went to one walmart store last Thrusday and they was a line of at least 10 people way before 4:30am and one woman was setting in her lawn chair first in line and would not move until she had her 3 bricks of .22LR ammo.

Then i ask her would she sell just one box to me and she said no they are going on Gun broker for 4 times what she paid for them.

That's when i said heck with it and I'll just wait until the panic crap is over before i buy some more. This woman does this every day at every walmart i been too i have seen her setting there in her little lawn chair every time.

Kind of ironic that you can get all the deer rifle ammo you want for anything other than 308 WIN or 30-30 WIN. Those are two of the calibers that people have always recommended because ammo for them is so readily available....until everyone wants ammo....and then you can't hardly find any ammo in those two calibers.

I was at Cabela's on Saturday and they had plenty of 243 WIN, 25-06 REM, 257 WBY, 6MM REM, 270 WIN, 270 WBY, 280 REM, 7MM REM, 7MM WBY, 7x57MM, 30-06, 300 WIN MAG, 300 WBY and everything on up. No 22LR, 223 REM, 308 WIN or 30-30 to be had. No buckshot to be had and no handgun ammo for any of the common calibers to be had.

I been looking for some 30-06 for about a month now. I got lucky and found 2 boxes at academy sports in west Knoxville for 15.99 a box. i bought 2 boxes and now i can't find nothing. because i was going to buy a box a week until i think i got enough to last a couple of years.

But i was wrong on that so i'm going into reloading just in case i have to reload a few hundred rounds.

I know it's happening but what I don't understand is how anybody is making enough money selling small batches of ammo on Gunbroker to make it worthwhile. Sure they are making a big percentage markup from regular retail prices but the total net profit can't be worthwhile unless they are riding a bicycle to the store. Say a guy buys 3 bricks of 22's at $20/brick then sells them for $70/brick. That's $150 profit theoretically. At todays gas prices they are probably spending at least $20 just going to the store to buy the ammo. That assumes they get it the 1st time they try which is a stretch I think. Then when they sell it, they have to come up with a box, shipping tape and drive to the local UPS store which is more gas. There are likely multiple buyers for the 3 bricks which may translate into multiple trips to UPS to ship - more cost in gas. By the time the dust settles they aren't making much money for their time.

I don't know where you are, but in Mid TN i see 308, .223, and .40 pretty regularly. I see 9mm from time to time. Now .22lr is a thing of myths, but Buck shot is in stock in massive quantities.

the 30-30 thing perplexes me. I have one and it took me a month of looking everyday at lunch to finally find some in 150 gr. I've seen 170gr several times. I just saw a case sitting on the gun counter at Academy last week, but I refrained from buying a box or 3 because I have plenty.

I have done this already, and was told they would take care of the chair thing, they haven't yet. The same guys every morning, buying all they can get and going to the Crump Flea Market and selling them. I hope when they die they bury them with all that precious ammo.

I was told at the clinton walmart its always the same folks buying it early, you would think somebody would want to know who was reselling the ammo to make sure sale taxs were being paid on it,not sure how all the tax laws work or how mant times something can be taxed or how much you sell before you need some kind of lic, crazy times when you cant even but a box of 22 to let your kids shoot some \:\(

I guess I'm the Lone Wolf on this one but I say the 1st one across the finish line Wins \:\) Rules and regulations, IMO, are something we have too much of already.
In the end, these folks little business will play out but in the mean time, it "should" be their right provided they have the cash to wait in their chairs and buy everything the store will sell them.

Now, If WalMart really cared who got what - they could easily draw times out of a hat daily and put ammo out at 1130 today instead of 7am and 1245 tomorrow instead of the same time daily. If it were my store, the folks in lawn chairs would be scratching their heads and their hemorrhoids from sittin too long on most days but again, it wouldn't be a "rule" just something to remind them that what they are doing is having an impact on others and to make them Work for their $ \:\)

Walmart has a no soliciting policy. They could stop this if they wanted. But they choose not to. I had stopped by the north Jackson store on Tuesday morningright at 6:30. To my surprise nobody was there waiting. I found an employee stocking in the camping section. I asked him if they had any ammo in the back. He asked me what caliber, I told him 223 and 22's. He said they didnt have any. I then asked him where the people were that are usually there waiting. He said he hasnt seen them. He said that one of the usual's showed him a paper that showed what ammo they were supposed to be getting. He said the inventory list was pretty accurate with what they actually had. I asked him where the list came from. He said he didnt know.

This is just a hobby for them, they have to have something to do in between getting their Obama checks. Their gas and time is free so it doesn't matter....

He hit it right there.

and If they think they are somehow beating the system, taking advantage of the system, to make a few extra bucks then they will do it.

But If it meant getting up that early to go to work and earn your money, you can forget it.

Not so sure that's 100% correct.. I have a few sources and many of the "waiters" are retiree's who have nothing better to do. WHile I would love nothing more than to go to WalMart (given what I've seen for 6-months now) and buy up a lifetime worth of .22, and I can't because of the "waiters", I've no hard feelings with them at all. This "was" a free country where anyone who wished to could buy/sell anything legally buyable/sellable without circumstance until we all asked for "rules" as we're doing now... Now, IMO, the only crappy person here is Mr WalMart since again, they could EASILY rotate the schedule for putting out ammo, not even tell the hourly's until it was time to pick up the radio and put it out, and make sure you take their cell phones up so they cant be calling Uncle Bob up to tell him \:\)
For the retiree's who are pocketing some extra cash - I'm proud for em! They don't draw the SS benefits etc. that they should because they've been screwed by the government who openly gives away our tax dollars to those who are underserving and so far, I've heard very few accounts of the welfare recipients buying up ammo - since they normally need their freezers back full o T-Bones by the time the new card comes in and aint willing to wait on Buy/Sell transactions to make it happen.

I love the few freedoms we have left so my vote is for the Old Timers to keep on keeping on if they choose to and have a blast!

Again, ammo problems aren't from the "waiters" anyway. Ammo is NOT being shipped to WMart in the amounts it once was - it's going other places..

It's not that hard to find out the stocking times and days for each given place. The phrase "it's a small world" really applies here...because chances are, somebody you work with, go to church with, etc will know somebody that works at one of these places and can find out when stuff comes in. Then it's just a matter of spreading like wildfire because it's info people are seeking. Some of the other ways are people are "tipping" the sporting good section employees for info...or to hold them back some ammo. This was/is happening at our local Dunham's store...in which the store managers were/are doing it...they had deals with customers that way, and would get the ammo off the trucks and put it back for their tipping "preferred" customers.

Our local Co-Op put a stop to the earlybird folks taking advantage of weekday stockdays for ammo. They still get their shipments in through the week, but they wont put it out on the shelf until Saturday...since the majority of folks will be off on Saturday...it sort of levels the playing field so to speak so anybody can get up on Saturday and have a shot at getting ammo.

Heck, my MIL is a CSM at our local WM and I don't have any info about when to be there. Although it doesn't take a NASA scientist to figure it out b/c of the line at 7:30 every Sat morning. I kinda look at it this way really...if I haven't prepared by now, at least somewhat, then I certainly ain't gonna demonize the ones that are scarfing it up. Notice I said demonize. Now if folks would just stop paying those outrageous prices from the ones that are buying and RE-selling, then a lot of that lawn-chair hanging out would stop, IMO.

Wal Mart gets their ammo on the same days every week. They start selling the ammo at the same time on those days. There is an inventory sheet that comes in with every shipment. All you have to do is call a couple hours in advance and they will tell you what is coming in. It's this way at all the wal mart's in my area. If they have something you need, then go and get there a couple hours before the time they start selling the ammo. What is so hard to figure out??? And no I don't work at wal mart, and I'm not one of the people you see standing in line...

I agree with kimber. The ammo buyers are no different than the moms that buy 5 tickle me Elmo dolls to resale on eBay for 3 times the price. The guys first in line buying the new Xbox to resale , or the people camping out for concert tickets to resale( that are sold out when I get off work).I don't like not finding ammo but everyone acts like they won't survive if they can't buy 22 ammo. If someone wants it bad enough they should also sit at Wally World waiting , pay the high price , or wait until supply returns.

Walmart is there to sell ammo. Whether you buy it or the armchair club buys, it's still a sell to Walmart. I don't think Walmart cares whether you have enough to shoot or not. They are not there to regulate what happens to their product once its sold. If I had the time I would be waiting also and reselling. Why get mad at people taking advantage of the situtation when everyone had the opportunity to purchase ammo prior to this shortage. Luckily I listened to other tndeer members talk about the ammo shortage a long time ago and went ahead and bought when it was available. It's ammo, not water, milk , bread, or gas. People like to hunt and shoot but it is a sport.

There's a difference between offering and asking. If you asked a million for your truck, then I'd say it's a foolish asking price.

No difference if someone will pay it. Simple, if you don't like a price on something keep on walking \:\)
