There are some great bucks and great populations east of knoxville.. definitely not as dense as west Tn. But they can be found, I used to hunt a farm in Cocke county that had an awesome population of deer with some GREAT bucks, probably the best place I have hunted in Tn.

ON AVERAGE, the deer of East TN are smaller than the deer of Middle and West TN, but that doesn't mean some East TN deer won't be top-end. Such a wide range of potential sizes exist in any given location that even in a below average area a few will be top-end.

I would guess you killed old spikes and 3 pts,and VERY young 7 or 8 pts then, thats sure not the norm.

Definatly some good deer hunting here just not like west Tn which I would love to go and hunt in west Tn. Some steep mountains around here and some smart old mountain deer.

I've talked to some game wardens and taxidermist, the last few years there has been a large increase in pope and young sized deer killed in our area and county.

Knox county has produced some very nice deer over the past few years.

I tagged.out on bucks in Sevier County (East of Knox) last Fall. Two 8 pointers and a 5 point. Cocke & Jefferson have some very nice bucks as well.

For most, the problem is finding land to hunt.

Here are two from last yr.

Second 8 point I killed last yr.

East TN is exploding with deer! Big Buck abound around every corner. The hunters there are so bad that few deer are killed when compared with West TN.

Ok I have to ask. Just what is it that makes westenders, particularly you Poser, such a beast of a hunter? All I've ever seen you that you have killed on here is some sort of filet of brains platter of mush that you've cooked up or somebody's post on country music. I guess you piss excellence every morning too don't ya? And yes BSK it's declining fast.

Yessiree. Excellence every morning... that's me. \:D
and fillet of brains platter has to be killed, doesn't it? Where's your fillet of brains platter? Oh, that's right, you only caught a glimpse of one last season \:o

I'm just messing with you, man. I don't claim to be much of a great hunter, but I can hang with the best of them when it comes to eating. Ol' BSK won't even come near bone marrow and I'm out there sucking it out of a straw, first chance I get.

there are ridges and hollers on this end of the state that haven't seen a human in 100 years. you flatlanders would die if you actually had to hunt.

If I had to only hunt East TN, I just might give up deer hunting! You won't catch me in those mountains! Our Highland Rim ridge-and-holler hardwoods are bad enough...

Well, that's the case anywhere. You can hunt some Unit L areas that appear to be almost devoid of deer. In other West TN areas, you will see sign at every turn, but, given the amount of food and cover, the deer just have no reason to travel during daylight. And then I have hunted a really good property in a Unit A county and seen 30 deer in a day plus the biggest deer I have ever seen.

May be, but we have some good public property here as well for those willing to do a little homework. I hunt a mix of both public and private property myself.

Here's one from the "hill" part of "hills and hollers". I almost rode him down the first part of the drag, but kept getting caught on every little sapling he would wrap around! The "up" part was harder, but way less aggravating! \:D I shot him half way up, on his way up, and he ran all the way to the top, then, stopped when he realized he was dead, and rolled back down about 60-70 ft. Only recommended for the realist of men. \:D \:D \:D
