Anyone tried a ruger american. You can get one for right at $350 but haven't seen a lot of reviews on them.

The latest edition of American Rifleman(NRA) has it listed as top product for this year I believe, or something along that line.

Bought my son one last year in 30-06. Shoots really well. Had it zeroed in about 10 shots. He claimed 3 deer last season.

I would have a hard time overlooking it if I were looking for a new rifle right now. It has a lot of good engineering put into it to make a solid, accurate mass-produced rifle. They just need to start making it in .338 Win Mag

Ok-got a scope mounted the other day and sighted the Ruger American 22-250 first at 25 and then on to 104 yds. Took it out coyote hunting the next day with no takers. After mowing some this evening I got it out of the safe and shot a 3 round group at 104 yds. It is a good shooter-after the 3 shot group I adjusted the scope 1/4" right and 1/4" down, powdered a couple of 2" chert cobbles and called it good. The rifle is a very good value-the mag appears a bit flimsy but it functioned fine. Pic is a bit dark of rifle but the target shows up well.

I haven't heard a bad word about the rifle at all. I am interested because you can pick them up at Gunbroker for a nice price and they seem to be on sale a lot also at the Big Box stores.

I recently found out the barrel is 20 inches or less, 18 maybe? Someone correct me please. Short barreled rifles run a lot of buyers off but properly constructed they do just fine.

The barrel length is 22" on the standard model. The compact or youth model has an 18" barrel. The American is a great value.

Can't speak to the 243 Win version. Using a brand new Ruger American Rifle fired from a stable bench rest, we were able to shoot a 3 round 0.74" group at 100 yard using Remington's 308 managed recoil ammo (125 grain,Core-lokt). My buddy worked up a custom load for this rifle that produced a 3-round 0.56" group using Nosler 165 grain accubonds.

There is a reason these models have won several awards such as the American Rifleman "Rifle of the Year." I believe Field and Stream as well as Guns and Ammo also recognized these guns.

My only negative review is Ruger could have designed a better magazine system. The fit seems loose. Since they use magazines designs for several calibers (i.e. 243 & 308), hand loaders may have to shorten the overall length for the bullets to fit in the magazines.

If you are happy with a 243 win caliber, you will like these guns.

PSE, how did you're guns look? Mine are fine. I got one rifle with the Navy Digital Camo pattern stock. My son loves it! I'm taking my daughters to be dipped in "Muddy Girl Camo) / Pink, tomorrow. My rifle is just fine with the flat black stock, but I love watching the kids get so tore up about their new guns....

I picked up my rifles from Camo Finish. We love the unique and custom appearances! We have Nikon Buckmaster scopes (3x9x40 with BDC reticle) for both rifles.

As soon as we locate some Nosler Accubond 150 grain bullets, these rifles will be good-to-go.
