From what I can see, (but I can also read,) they are proposing the employee be given the option of overtime pay, or an equal amount of time off. It would be up to the employee and not the employer. But I can see how it might bother the left, they won't get their cut in taxes.

Might come in handy during hunting season.

My question would be if I am forced to work overtime a extra 8 hour shift do I get 1 1/2 days of for comp time. My years working it was common to be forced to work a double shift since the unit ran 24 hours and if your relief (the next worker of your job next shift) called in sick you had no choice but to fill the job. I would say I averaged 5 to 6 extra shifts a month overtime. It was hard enough to get your vacation when you wanted it, I can't see comp time working out in a place like that.

The question should be why is this the governments concern? Don't they have better things to do than dictate the personal dealings of a employer and employee? Heck this was an option where I last worked, we could as employees earned extra PTO and the end of every quarter what we didn't use came in a check. It was kept in a seperate column on our paperless check stubs from the normal vacation time. I loved the option.

Just think of the money a employer could save if they didn't have to pay time and a half for overtime. I would be afraid to take comp time just due to the factor when you want to take it who makes the call if you want the days off during certan parts of the year.

Did you get 1 1/2 days off comp time to equal the time and half pay you would have got or just day for day hour for hour ?

Ben, have you even read the article? It is the employee's choice. Federal and state workers already get the option, they are wanting to extend it to everyone. Apparently the low information left either can't read, don't want people to have that option, or simply regurgitate what their steward tells them to. In this case it is probably a combination of all three.
