Well, haven't got to hunt anything like I usually do, with my two girls both playing softball, so went this afternoon in the rain looking in the fields. Found a lone adult gobbler with a few hens in a field, watched them feeding, and made a big loop, put out one hen decoy just behind a rise. Finally they reached a point in the field where they could see the decoy. I made one soft series of yelps, and he stretched his head, then here he came on a slow walk. He took a load of 5s in the face at 25 yds.I don't have any pics yet, but he was a nice adult, 22lbs, 1 spurs, and a 11 inch paintbrush beard. Number five in Tn., my last bird. I took one at Chickasaw NWR, and 4 state birds. All adults. This has been a strange year. Not sure what is going on, but I hunt west and middle Tn., and the birds aren't there like normal. Hope all you have had a good season, still time for some good hunts. Good luck.

Congrats, that sounds like a good season to me. Next year I will put in for a draw hunt, would love to be able to kill 5 birds in the spring.

Was gonna take you to Dickson, normally we all kill a bird opening day, this year we have had no birds to speak of. We went from having several hundred winter on us, then in turkey season we would hear ten plus a morning. Not this year, something has happened. I talked to a farm hand who works on two big dairy farms, he said the birds have vanished on both farms, and they aren't seeing any. Did you find any on that farm I told you about?

Congrats man.

That is strange what you said about Dickson.
I have seen the SAME thing there.

Last year on opening day of juvy season I counted (literally) 175 gobbles in one morning.

This year in two hunts I have heard exactly 3.

Still seeing some sign but no birds... none.

We talked to the guy at the sportsman store in Dickson, he said he is hearing this from everyone, and the kill is way down. I just don't believe this is due to bad hatchs the last several yrs., especially in the hill region.
