I don't suppose anyone knows of a good gunsmith that I could be directed to for some info and checking on an old turn of the 20th century revolver I bought at the last gun show? I was told it was an old S&W .44 revolver, using the .44 Russian....only I've done some of my own detective work, and in trying to find out the age of it, I believe I discovered (correctly) that it isn't S&W but actually an Iver & Johnson .44 chambered in Webley or possibly Bulldog....And it is a shoot-able gun, but only as long as I use black powder cartridges. Russian cartridges will fit it, and they aren't loose, but presumably the smokeless powder cartridge is too powerful for the frame, even though the cartridge fits the chambers. My options are to find someone willing to reload some Russian brass or have it for wall hanging..And I really prefer the former....or if a gunsmith would declare it to be useable for a the present day Russian load.
