Went with Bayou Buck this morning till about 11 am. I could look longer, but I'm tired and hungry. Racked up 136 myself and he got probably about half as many, but hasn't counted yet. Quite a few were mushy and unusable so we stomped them in the ground (those were not counted). These are all of mine that were still good. Some were actually very fresh.

Should be somewhere around 876 mushrooms if I counted right. They should be still going good in east TN if it's cooler than it is here.

I can't really figure the dern things out and where they grow but yes it has been colder up here and when I say up here I mean Washington, Greene and Sullivan counties which is the very far east so I will keep looking this week.

I went out this evening and found enough big yellows to fill a bagel bag. Only one was in prime condition, the rest were salvageable.

What broke my heart is that I found somewhere between 2 and 3 dozen BIG yellows-- between 8-10" tall, bases nearly big enough to fit your wrist-- but they every one were deteriorated past salvaging. They were 50 yards from an area I'd search a week and a half ago.

Next year...!

that hurts, I haven't found any real big yellows this year. I'd look in that area more, maybe more on a north slope, there might be more in the area.

I went to catmans and my honey hole after he did today and found 36 good ones. Just enough for a couple of good side dishes. The wife loves em, so she was happy \:\)

Cut in half lengthwise, rinse well and soak in a bowl of saltwater overnight in the fridge. Will kill the thrips and other little critters that might reside in those hollow stems.

Pat dry, dip in egg, flour, and fry. That's the most traditional method, and it stands the test of time.
