Two points.

A) The article is written by the AP. That alone should make you suspicious of it's accuracy and intent.

B) Hagel is an idiot. He is Obama's puppet and he will always be referred to as a "Republican" in order to deflect criticism.

Actually a third. It is interesting that this is the same storyline being pushed by left wing outlets across the country. Some Obama appointees representing the "Army". A quick search revealed two types of articles, ones similar to this one and ones describing how good the tank is.

Now I am not saying that this program is needed, I don't know. But I can say that one should never trust the AP. They intentionally spoon feed their politics to the "low information voter."

It's ridiculous. The Department of Defense has become a massively bloated, inefficient, taxpayer milking, budget busting, extremely political, big government jobs program. I have lost a lot of respect for "conservative" Republicans who preach about the dangers of this country's deficit spending and colossal national debt, yet refuse to even want to consider trimming spending or at least rationalizing spending at the biggest government organization of them all - the DoD. They are ultimate hypocrites.

I cannot disagree with you, but military spending is not the largest federal expense, entitlements are. Almost twice as much and growing.

If you lump all entitlement spending together to include Social Security + Medicare + Medicaid + Welfare, then yes. The Heritage foundation does that to suit their agenda.

Depending on what site you reference, if you separate "entitlements" into their three distinctly different areas (Social Security, Healthcare, Welfare) then defense spending in 2012 was #1 and is forecasted to remain #1 in 2013.

Federal Budget Spending Actuals

I want to see them all cut and I can't take any politician (like John McCain) or commentator (like Sean Hannity) seriously about our national debt and deficit spending unless they advocate for cutting across the board.

Congress forced the Army to buy millions of dollars worth of trucks back in the 80s that the Army specifically did NOT want.

They forced the AF to purchase a number of C-130s during that same time period the AF said they did NOT want. To add insult to injury, Congress then gave at least two of those C-130s to other agencies (and I believe one to a foreign country), but the AF still had to pay the bill.

This is nothing new; it's called buying votes, plain and simple.

I've seen a number of posts on here suggesting across the board cuts in varying percentages.
DOD can be safely trimmed just like entitlements can.

If every federal agency can't find 10% of waste to trim then they're not doing their job effectively.

We're at record levels now. Going back to spending levels of a few years ago does work apparently.

The real key here is "waste".

Obama and other politicians have proven they will never cut any real waste and manage it like it's suppose to be. They will force the cuts where it will hurt the general public so they can get more taxes. Cutting waste defects their purposes.
