My main purpose is 3 gun competition, so having one that goes as close to 1x in power as possible is important to me. Also a daytime visible illuminated reticle is a big bonus. I use a Leupold VX6 multigun which is 1-6x. I'm not sure that's in the "decent price" category, but it's a heck of a scope.

Another one that's really popular is the Burris Tac30 or MTAC which are both 1-4x scopes. If you're going to hunt with it, 1x may not mean as much to you. These are the minimum of what I'd consider for this genre of optic.

The Leuopold is a bit of a stretch for me BUT I got another ?

Is a Martech rear site an all in one or can it be used with a regular scope and high rings or would you want to do this?

what do you intend to use your AR for?

for hunting I would go wtih a 3-9x40

3 gun or plinking a 1-4xXX

as far as brand if you aren't looking to spend too much get a Nikon.. good quality and less than $250 usually..

If price was no issue I would tell you to get a Trijicon Accupoint 3-9x40 \:\)
